About the role
The Design, Media and Content Delivery Team is a dedicated, professional, supportive and knowledgeable group of people who work creatively to deliver outstanding qualification, assessments and learning products and services for the UK Schools market. Within the group, we have a dedicated User Experience and UI design team that lead on the design and development of our UK Schools platform and services.
The UX and UI Design Manager, requires someone to drive forward the UX and UI centre of excellence. An individual who is evangelical about user-centred design. Someone who is passionate about making better experiences and with a track record of making the changes necessary to put the user at the heart of the design process.
The role will lead a team of highly motivated, experienced UX and UI design professionals. The team works in a collaborative way with product, content, technology and marketing teams to bring ideas to life. We apply best practice from a diverse range of disciplines such as interaction design, cognitive science, visual design and instructional design.
Key focus
To develop, mentor and motivate a team of UX and UI design professionals
To establish training programmes for team members, to support the continued development of UX and UI design techniques, (sketching, wireframing, rapid prototyping, user testing), that can be utilised in workshops, accelerating the ideation process.
Lead the team to meet roadmap objectives and key results
Prioritise work effectively when demand outstrips supply
Contributes to the further development of Pearson School Qualifications UX and UI framework and maturity within the School Qualification division.
Leads on standards and best practice for UX and UI, ensuring products and services deliver on UX KPI’s.
Balance strategic awareness with ground-level implications
Create a culture and environment that nurtures creativity, innovation and design thinking
Promote user-centred design practice and an agile and lean approach
Influence and persuade stakeholders from UX, Business, Product and Engineering team
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following skills and qualities:
The UX and UI Design Manager is expected to have experience and a deep understanding of all aspects of UX design. They will have a proven track record of leading a team of UX/UI professionals, in producing high quality deliverables and finding solutions to complex problems.

Understanding of responsive design
Expert knowledge of interaction design theories and best practices
Keen interest in UX trends and innovations
Experience of applying WCAG 2.1 accessibility requirements to UX projects
Experience working within agile delivery teams
Ability to identify and recommend potential third parties and/or technologies
Role location: This is a hybrid working role, flexing between home location and designated Pearson UK office.
