THE ROLE
The Trade mark (TM) Formalities Paralegal will sit in the Intellectual Property (IP) sub-team within the ASOS Legal Department. As an innovative pure-play e-commerce fashion destination, every inch of ASOS incorporates IP, trade marks and our brand. This role will be critical in ensuring that the Legal Department meets the needs and requirements of all elements of ASOS’ business across the globe, requiring the ability to give commercial as well as legal advice, to operate comfortably and effectively in many different jurisdictions, and to promptly identify risks and issues that need to be escalated within the Company.   
 
You’ll need to be hands on and commercially minded, with a strong professional ethic, and the energy, interest and training to deal with tasks associated with the whole lifecycle of our TMs. You’ll need to have a very keen interest in Trade marks, be happy to deal with both formalities and paralegal tasks, and move as quickly as the rest of the business.

There are two key parts to this role –you will be responsible for formalities in the team, as well as handling some additional TM paralegal tasks:
Docketing and formalities related -
Responsible for ensuring that ASOS’ TM database contains accurate, relevant information
Producing reports and data required by IP sub-team, Legal Department & the wider business
Managing formalities associated with trade mark filing programs, prosecution, registration and renewal, for example preparing PoAs, application forms, paying renewal fees, etc
Dealing with filing programs for designs & ©
Processing the formalities related to TM (legal) transfer projects
Organising and maintaining storage of original documents
Trade mark related -
Reviewing trade mark and company name watches, providing a first view
Instructing filing programs with local counsel and following up to ensure all requirements are met
Preparing TM applications and recordals at UKIPO, EUIPO & WIPO
Dealing with specification objections
Working closely with local agents to ensure that our TM portfolio is managed efficiently
Collecting evidence required for filings, prosecution and disputes undertaking brand clearance searches.

CITMA Paralegal qualification
A keen eye for detail  
Strong organisational skills 
The ability to work within a face paced, constantly changing environment  
The capability to adapt their approach and communications to ensure excellent interactions across the business 
Strong TM registration and prosecution experience, within a leading trade mark attorney firm or in-house 
An ability to work in a fast-growing, agile, adaptable environment is preferred 
You must have a keen eye for detail and be organised – we cover a lot of ground and you’ll have autonomy from day one, so you need to be comfortable with working under pressure, making quick and considered calls and pushing projects forward. Finally, this is 100% a role for someone who LOVES trade marks!
