Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution (DMED) brings together the Company’s best-in-class product, technology, and commercialization teams together into one global organization. DMED is responsible for the P&L management and all distribution, network and engineering operations, sales, advertising, data, and certain key technology functions worldwide for the Company’s content engines. DMED also manages operations of the Company’s streaming services including Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ and Disney+ Hotstar; and domestic broadcast and cable television networks.
DMED Legal is part of the Legal Department of The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) and provides legal advice to DMED and other businesses of TWDC regarding advertising and sponsorship, marketing, digital products, technology, and content distribution.
The Senior Paralegal (“SPâ€) will provide legal advice and support for DMED’s Advertising Sales Team, focusing primarily on the addressable sales business for various Disney brands including Hulu, Disney+, ABC, ESPN, FX, Nat Geo, and Freeform. In particular, the SP will support attorneys who draft and negotiate agreements related to data collection and use, research and analytics, distribution of advertising inventory on non-Disney controlled platforms, advertising technology, linear addressable and data driven linear services, programmatic advertising, insertion orders, master terms and conditions with advertisers and agencies, integrated marketing, branded and custom content, influencer marketing, and social media platforms. The SP may also perform pre-publication reviews of advertising content for compliance issues. The SP will work with the Assistant Chief Counsel of advertising to advise TWDC and its business units on advertising law compliance, policy, and process, including native advertising, testimonials and endorsements, claim substantiation, and disclosures. The SP may also work on sponsorships, contests and sweepstakes, user generated content, content production and development, and business development. The SP will also need a good working knowledge of privacy and data security in order to help clients navigate these areas in conjunction with TWDC’s subject matter experts. The SP will work with our Paralegal Specialist to support a team of six attorneys and the Assistant Chief Counsel of advertising.
Responsibilities:
Assist attorneys with structuring, drafting, and negotiating contracts relating to data collection and use, research and analytics, distribution of advertising inventory on non-Disney controlled platforms, advertising technology, linear addressable and data driven linear services, programmatic advertising, insertion orders, master terms and conditions with advertisers and agencies, integrated marketing, branded and custom content, influencer marketing, and social media platforms.
Assist attorneys with reviewing creative materials to ensure compliance with advertising law and policy, including compliance with FTC Guidelines, CARU Guidelines, internal company guidelines, and other advertising industry standards and practices.
Drafting services agreements, promotional agreements, NDAs, statements of work, and other types of correspondence and agreements with advertisers and vendors.
Working closely with attorneys, other paralegals, and clients throughout DAS, DMED, and the Walt Disney Company.
Miscellaneous projects as they arise.
Qualifications:
Minimum 5+ years as a paralegal with transactional experience
Bachelor’s degree and/or qualification to be a paralegal by certification or education and work experience as set forth by the American Bar Association and any applicable state codes
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Exceptional judgment to appropriately discern when to escalate issues
Strong research and analytical skills
Excellent attention to detail
Superior organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize workload
Experience in handling a high volume of deadline-intensive work
