We’re currently looking to recruit Study Supervisors (Analyst) to join our Centre for Chemical Safety & Stewardship (CCSS) working under GLP.

CCSS is a diverse scientific service programme, which conducts highly technical assessments for public and private sector stakeholders. CCSS prides itself on delivering high quality, regulatory projects which adhere to and comply with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). We engage within scientific research and development, which ensures we remain at the forefront of scientific and regulatory development within chemistry, environmental fate, metabolism and ecotoxicology.

We have two vacancies: regulation Chemistry & Environmental fate.

As a Study Supervisor within the chemistry section, you will work across a variety of wet chemistry techniques/LCSM to perform method development, method validations and to analyse samples across a range of compounds in multiple matrices. The GLP Analytical Chemistry Section is also home to the Wildlife Incident Investigation Scheme (WIIS) for England and Wales. WIIS investigate deaths of wildlife where there is the possibility they have been poisoned by pesticides.

As an Environmental Fate Study Supervisor, you will be responsible for the planning, performance and resourcing for GLP regulatory studies into the environmental fate of agrochemicals, industrial chemicals, veterinary medicines and pharmaceuticals.

Job Description:

What you’ll be doing:

E-fate

  • Perform regulatory and/or research-based laboratory studies into the fate of chemicals in environmental compartments
  • Help outline Study Plans for standard studies using international guidelines and regulatory guidance, study outlines and client-supplied information
  • Perform and deliver regulatory studies making sure that the resource planner is up to date (Retain)  
  • Produce outline reports to assist study directors
  • Contribute to the running and maintenance of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) quality systems, meticulously following standard operating procedures.
  • Review audit reports and client comments then contributing to responses

Chemistry section

  • Extraction and clean-up of a wide variety of sample types using standard wet chemistry techniques.
  • Operate and perform routine maintenance on analytical instrumentation e.g .GC, HPLC.
  • Data entry and checking for study directors, calculate and report results to the relevant team members.
  • Produce accurate written summaries of key data from other more detailed reports, ensuring Study Directors are well informed
  • Validate new methods for a variety of analytes in different sample types following a written method
  • Analyse samples for a variety of analytes in different sample types following a written method
  • Perform laboratory procedures using standard laboratory equipment and be responsible for laboratory facilities and maintenance

What we’re looking for:

  • Preferably, you will be a chemistry graduate with some lab experience in a GXP environment or e-fate
  • Experience in chromatography techniques
  • You’ll be methodical with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to keep clear and accurate written records of experimental work to a high standard
  • Good team working skills but with the ability to work independently as required
  • Practical IT skills in software packages including Microsoft Office.
  • Experienced in organising, prioritising and completing work to required standards and to tight deadlines.
  • You may be required to work with potentially hazardous substances and deceased animals- full PPE will be provided
  • An ability to work within a multi-disciplinary environment.

E-fate:

  • Experience of extraction/analytical methods for organic chemicals in environmental matrices
  • Experience of radio-labelled biodegradation studies in environmental matrices (soils and sediments) and/or adsorption studies and/or ADME studies
  • Experience of laboratory-based environmental fate studies
