About the RoleWould you like to join one of the largest reinsurance groups in the world? Are you interested in reinsurance alternative capital? Then we might have the right opportunity for you! In your role you will: – Provide legal and regulatory advice, transactional support and coordination of legal services in relation to reinsurance capital activities in which Swiss Re’s Alternative Capital Partners (ACP) team engages globally.
These activities are primarily centered around the retrocession of property & casualty as well as life & health and other business and will include transforming such business in conjunction with the sell-side activities of the Swiss Re Capital Markets ILS team and with Swiss Re’s new third-party capital fund management initiatives.
In your role, you will be focused on the retrocession of Swiss Re business and the impact on the capital management of Swiss Re legal entity balance sheets.
– Act as primary legal contact to the Head of ACP and be part of the ACP management team
– Report to General Counsel CCGF, coordinate legal advice and the provision of legal services to ACP with colleagues primarily in the Reinsurance Legal team, Swiss Re Capital Markets and Asset Management Legal teams around the world.
– Coordinate with other lawyers providing transactional support to ACP retrocession team.
– Facilitate coordination of legal/regulatory issues among the business, the wider legal & compliance division, finance, risk management and other colleagues across Swiss Re’s EMEA, Americas and Asia hubs
– Analyze, advise and report on legal and regulatory risks as they apply to the ACP business activities across the globe, with a focus on retrocession.
– Monitor legal and regulatory trends affecting relevant areas and advise and collaborate with Compliance and Risk Management colleagues in relation to preparation of reports, responses to inquiries and other regulatory matters.
– Foster and maintain positive working relationships with clients, colleagues and outside law firms
– Provide legal support for new product development in the reinsurance alternative capital area. – Support internal group projects and strategic initiatives
– Conduct and/or arrange internal presentations and trainings on legal topics About the TeamThis is a unique opportunity to join a distributed team that provides legal support to Swiss Re’s Alternative Capital Partners (ACP) team. ACP is a global business team, which uses a broad range of reinsurance retrocession and third-party capital instruments (e.g., retrocession on all lines of business, risk swaps, side cars, insurance-linked securities and derivatives, and private funds) to enable Swiss Re to grow its reinsurance book.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of transactions and interact directly with the Head of ACP as well as various General Counsels in Legal.
About You Qualification and experience:- A law degree and qualification in one of New York, England or Switzerland, with a minimum of seven years’ experience, in reinsurance and/or related capital markets transactions, with a law firm or international re/insurance company or financial institution – Demonstrable expertise in managing legal aspects that affect complex, multi-jurisdictional transactions that involve collateral and financing structures, including transactional experience in structuring, drafting, negotiating and executing such transactions – Understanding of all forms of reinsurance capital and reinsurance landscape, including ability to understand financial and risk capital metrics (regulatory and rating agency capital), risk modelling, reinsurance cash flows and triggers – Understanding of reinsurance regulation and the adjacent corporate, regulatory, and compliance landscape impacting ACP – Understanding of the role of the L&C Team as control and challenge function and participation in risk management
– Ability to identify relevant issues, taking ownership in achieving resolution, using a collaborative approach, and understanding of technical and compliance matters that require escalation or greater oversight – Effective organizational, multi tasking, and prioritizing skills to handle multiple requests and deadlines – Ability to understand and operate successfully in a complex, matrixed corporate environment
