About the opportunity

The School of Psychology is welcoming applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship - Growing Minds Australia School - Based Interventions to apply and develop their expertise in conducting research.

Our overarching research aim is to increase school readiness to provide a platform for the mental health and well-being of pre-school and school-aged youth and enhance the sustainability of effective mental health assessments and interventions in the school setting.

Two research directions have been specified: the development of a framework for schools to identify and implement appropriate interventions to address the mental health needs of their students; and the validation of a brief mental health screening tool for teachers.

The school-based interventions research group is chaired by Professor Caroline Hunt and includes researchers who are world leaders in this topic, including Professors Eva Kimonis, Frank Oberklaid, Ron Rapee, Andrea Reupert, and Alison Walters.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• meet regularly with the school-based intervention research group

• collaborate with the research group, and develop a research plan that will address at least one of the identified research directions

• conduct literature reviews to support the projects, including scoping and systematic reviews as relevant

• assist with the development of a decision-aid for schools for implementing mental health interventions

• participate in data collection, management, and analysis of a validation study of a teacher-reported screening tool, the Wellbeing Continuum

• participate in the Growing Minds Australia Early and Mid-Career Researchers network.

The commencement level will be determined based on the candidate's skills, experience, and knowledge.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
