Maintain strong, productive relationships with key internal clients while serving as a trusted legal advisor, legal risk manager, and business partner. Serve as a technical expert in particular area(s) of specialization.

Job Description Summary:

Maintains strong, productive relationships with key clients and serves as a trusted advisor and business partner. Serves as a technical expert in particular area(s) of federal prudential supervision, including the governance and controls framework applied by the Federal Reserve to bank holding companies of the size and complexity of Truist Financial Corporation, and the prudential and compliance standards applied by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and North Carolina Commissioner of Banking (NCCOB) to state-chartered, non-member banks,. Provides a broad range of legal support for regulatory, risk and compliance, and other legal matters involving Truist. Is responsible for providing legal advice, preparing and/or reviewing filings of applications, notices and examination responses, performing legal research and analysis, maintaining files and records, and/or assisting in resolving legal problems that may represent potential exposure to the company. Interacts with the staffs of federal and state regulatory agencies on regulatory policy and advocacy issues, and engages with trade associations and industry groups on behalf of Truist.  Keeps abreast of legislative and regulatory developments that affect the company and the banking industry.

Must be properly licensed to practice law. Strong commitment to principles of diversity and inclusion required, and pro bono, volunteerism and community engagement are very strongly encouraged.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A JD with state bar admission in good standing
  • Minimum 5 years of legal experience in a similar law firm, in-house or government regulatory practice.
  • Federal financial supervisory agency experience is a strong positive
  • Strong knowledge of, and proficiency in, financial institution laws and regulations, particularly relating to prudential regulation
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage large volumes of work, including complex legal issues that may arise without warning
  • Capacity to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, fluid environment with limited supervision
  • Ability to counsel business partners, effectively identifying risk and mitigation options
  • Willingness to work on a team, interacting across different functions and job levels
  • High-energy, positive attitude and commitment to success

Preferred:

  • Strong knowledge of government laws and regulations
  • Strong communication skills to deal with internal and external constituencies, including senior executives and members of Truist Board of Directors
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, community engagement and public service
