Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC’s global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely.
We are currently recruiting a talented Enterprise Architect to join WPB IT.
The Enterprise Architect defines the technology strategy and implementation roadmap for their function. Their primary stakeholders are CIOs, Platform Leads, CTOs, Business and Transformation colleagues, and fellow Architects (Enterprise, Platform, Value Stream/Portfolio, Solutions). They may specialise in a specific technology / digital domain or operate horizontally. They are responsible for shaping the architecture roadmap within HSBC and implementing technology strategy across regions, global businesses or technology areas and domains.
What you will be doing;
Enterprise Architecture
- Defining, maintaining and owning the enterprise architecture blueprint, ensuring alignment to HSBC Technology strategies and to provide overarching Design Authority accountability for major change initiatives across the Group
- Engaging with their primary stakeholders to influence strategic investment decisions and technology outcomes
- Own WPB Technology architecture
- Reduce the cost of deploying change across the landscape through a roadmap that defines successive change through consolidation and/or industrialisation of associated platforms, technical journeys, security solutions, delivery ALM pipelines, integration (API driven and middleware) and ensuring that the optimal compatibility and interoperability between platform technologies, heritage and future, is achieved
- Validate each Value Stream / market target state roadmap, enriching the aspiration to ensure the balance between discrete needs and group wide direction are incorporated
- Identifying opportunities and threats in the technology industry and articulating potential impacts to HSBC.
- Stay abreast of technology trends and advise Technology and the business about potential opportunities
- Consult on new best practices, processes, operating model, techniques, products, services, technologies and standards where needed against identified use cases, via the appropriate governance bodies.
- Stay abreast of technology trends and advise business/CIO/CTOs/Chief Architect and the business about potential benefits/impacts
- Identify all forums and communities (internal and in Industry) requiring retail bank enterprise architecture and strategy representation and drive the agenda around both overarching compliance and specific innovations needed
Governance
- Providing design authority for technology and design decisions and leadership of architectural governance and controls
- Custodian of strategic alignment to HSBC and WPB technology strategy
Leadership
- Leading and owning the development and implementation of architecture blueprints (e.g. strategy, principles, standards, patterns & roadmaps)
- Introducing new ways of working, products and services and / or technology capability against identified use cases, via the appropriate governance bodies
- Define and promote architectural standards and methods
- Influence architecture and design within the architecture discipline, including ensuring that the target for architecture is implemented consistently across the CIO function and drive the realisation of strategy
- Work with fellow peers and senior colleagues to ensure vitality across the team and share the responsibility of adapting the capability and its people to the high degree of change and challenge that the market is driving
- Lead and drive operational excellence on the full architectural life cycle and provide guidance to development teams to ensure quality technical deliverables.
Qualifications
What you will bring to the role;
To be successful in this role you should have:
- Experience building scaled solutions with the consideration of quality attributes as a primary rather than secondary consideration
- Ability to identify key system architecture components, propose and help teams build solutions that unblock deployments.
- Ability to interact at executive level within the business as well as Technology is critical to the success of this role
- Capability to influence and champion new ideas and technical direction within the organization
- Excellent communication skills with ability to translate strategies, planned and managed approaches, methods and tools and operational plans globally.
- Excellent stakeholder management - deliver a highly effective cross-functional leadership across diverse populations, regions and markets globally building strong working, effective stakeholder relationships and engagement across all teams.
- Excellent Leadership and Teamwork - educate, inspire, motivate and mentor teams, creating a sense of community amongst the disparate members of the technical areas
Resilience and tenacity with highly effective influencing, persuading and negotiating skills.
- Become accustomed to managing a high level of ambiguity across geographies, markets, products and services and delivering clear decisions and direction
- Experience in digital and broader architectural transformation, applying solutions from experience in decomposing monolithic solutions and methods to manage technical debt.
- Ability to understand, articulate and translate customer journeys into technical design, leveraging API and micro-service architecture techniques and applying the platform solutions required to enable.
- Experience, knowledge and understanding of enterprise level software development and API based integration, e.g. Mulesoft
- Ability to participate in technical design and oversee all technology related issues of cloud-native product development, building a micro-services based architecture, promoting API reuse and managing down technical debt across the enterprise.
This role can be based in London or Sheffield.
