Job Description

Job Purpose

The Canal & River Trust is one of the UK’s biggest charities and we are entrusted with the care of over 2,000 miles of waterways in England and Wales. As well as maintaining canals and rivers, we are also responsible for an extensive network of waterside infrastructure along with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings – preserving them for future generations.

We are currently seeking an experienced Works Engineer to join our Operations, Technical Support team.

The teams function is to help promoters achieve their objectives, transform the waterways and enrich lives, while at the same time protecting our customers, infrastructure, buildings, heritage and waterway environment from harm or damage that could result from the promoter’s work. The team recovers fees and charges which go to support the work of the Trust, and handles approximately 300 different schemes per year offering a completely varied work load.

The team links with other teams within the Trust on behalf of the developer to find the necessary solutions to undertake works that will, where possible, enhance the waterway and environment.

The successful applicant will gain engineering knowledge and negotiation skills whilst working on a variety of schemes. This makes the workload completely variable which adds to the attraction of working in the team.
