About the team
- The Converged Core Delivery team manage all projects and programmes within the VMO2 Core Network.
- At the very heart of our Network, ensuring our customer can stay connected to the people that matter, supporting 36.1 million connections every day.
- Delivering exciting new capability & services, critical network capacity and ensuring our network remains fully operational and supported with regular maintenance upgrades across Fixed Voice, Mobile Voice, Messaging, Data Access, Packet Core & Smart Metering Portfolios.

About the role
- The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for the successful end to end delivery of the Voice Delivery Portfolio in Converged Core.
- The role holder will work under broad direction and be accountable for ensuring Portfolio Projects achieve delivery on time and within the required budget, quality and scope agreed with the Business Owner, to ensure that the business benefits are realised.
Key responsibilities:
- Management of the Portfolio Plan of Intent, from requirements gathering and project mobilisation through all stages of delivery to realisation of benefits and timely project closure.
- Matrix management and leadership of a large team of Project Managers, ensuring adherence to process, industry best practise and effective delivery performance within the Portfolio.
- Recruitment and development within the Project Management team to ensure they are highly effective and ready to meet the delivery needs of the Portfolio.
- Resolving key conflicts across internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects/programmes deliver as expected.
- Working with key domain stakeholders to provide effective management of project and Portfolio budget.
- Prepares portfolio reports and chairs Steering sessions with key internal stakeholders. Highlights key progress, issues and risks for stakeholder attention and resolution.
- Coordinates portfolio prioritisation, taking direction from key stakeholders and reflecting in the Plan of Intent.
- Ensures that dependencies are effectively managed and where required escalate issues to stakeholders for resolution.
- Identifies improvements to the portfolio management practices, contributes to continuous improvement initiatives within the area.
Key Skills
Essential:
- Experience running complex project and programmes in a large complex organisation where time to market and cost are critical success factors
- Effective leadership and communications skills, projecting competence and credibility
- Experience of working in an environment of change involving new systems, new processes and culture change
- Stakeholder management skills to Senior level
- Driven and focussed, insists on high level of performance and does not become resigned to the inevitability of delays
- Willingness to challenge the status quo and adopt innovative delivery mechanisms
- Proven track record of analysis and planning for a range of outcomes.
- Proven track record in Project Management capability development
- Structured and methodical, detailed conscious planner
- Demonstrable examples of being tenacious and proactive to deliver a high level of performance across projects and programmes
- Proven track record of delivery and achieving results through people in a matrix delivery team.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of VMO2 UK business processes and cross-functional working experience
- Desirable: Telecoms Network or IT experience is a key advantage; in particular in the Core Voice and/or Messaging area
