Brunswick i-Jet is seeking a part-time paid Visual Artist Intern to join our Research Park Team in Champaign, Illinois for the Fall of 2021, with potential for extension into the following year. As an intern, you will work in the Research Park office at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. 

As a Visual Artist Intern, you will work collaboratively and independently with highly qualified industrial and graphic design professionals who are responsible for the design of marine engines, boats, controls and user interface systems for the recreational boating industry. You will become an integral member of the design team committed to delivering superior results. You'll learn how to work with designers and engineers from across the different divisions of Brunswick, to teach, research, and understand the intersection of design, art, and technology. 

AS THE VISUAL ARTIST INTERN, YOU WILL: 

• Lead workshops to educate the office on how art benefits and or impacts STEM, design, and other fields. 

• Collaborate with engineering and design team to create meaningful visual pieces. 

• Conduct research on current and historical trends of social movements, art history, technology, design, and other topics and present comparisons of how these trends have evolved and are predicted to become in the future, and how they may impact art, technology, or other spaces.  

• Create documentation necessary to convey findings and present them to the i-Jet and possibly wider audiences.  

QUALIFICATIONS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE: 

• Current enrollment in a BS/MS program with a major in Visual Design, New Media, Painting, Sculpture or similar at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign 

• Must be willing and able to work a minimum of 12 hours, per week for the duration of the internship.  

• If on a student visa, must be able to obtain CPT work authorization. 

• Interest in leading workshops, teaching, and research on a variety of topics 

• Verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate effectively 

• Ability to provide clear, insightful, and actionable design critiques 

• Interest in the evolution and intersection of technology, art, design, and engineering's relationship and impact with each other. 

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Miro. Experience in other creative software a plus.
