Join our team in this unique role to welcome visitors and give them an experience to remember at Kind Alfred's Tower.
Working weekends, bank holidays and school half-terms from March to October you'll get to give our visitors exploring the wider Stourhead Estate something they'll never forget. You will connect visitors to the history and significance of King Alfred's Tower and answer questions about this special place and the wider Stourhead estate.
The Hours: There are two roles advertised to cover weekend opening. Shifts will be 10.15 to 15.45, as the Tower will be open 11-3pm (Please indicate in your application which role you wish to be considered for)
The Salary: This hourly role pays 9.39 per hour
Duration: This role will run from March to October
This role includes lone working and climbing a steep staircase twice a day.
Stourhead is an 18th Century Palladian mansion, world-famous garden and it is surrounded by an increasingly popular wider estate full of walks, towering follies and hill forts. King Alfred's Tower has stood for over 250 years, since 1772 on the top of Kingsettle Hill. At 49 metres (161 ft) the tower offers sweeping views across Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset, and these can be enjoyed after scaling the Towers 205 step spiralling stone staircase.
You'll work and communicate with our Visitor Welcome Team at Stourhead to ensure King Alfred's Tower is open and accessible to visitors through March to October.

You will work hard to ensure we can drive essential income into Europe's largest conservation charity, so that we can continue to care for all the heritage in our trust. Visitors are a vital part of what we do, so you’ll be responsible for ensuring that you provide an excellent service to all our visitors, every day. As the Visitor Experience Assistant, it’s your role to ensure that the welcome our visitors receive is perfect, setting them up for an amazing experience for the rest of the day.
You’ll be responsible for answering queries and making sure visitors can find everything they need for their visit. Understanding how and why we engage our supporters is key.
You’ll deliver high standards of presentation at King Alfred's Tower, and ensure all our communications with our visitors are clear and consistent.
