Job Description

The Vice President of Strategy and Business Development participates in the execution of Express Scripts Pharmacy's (EXP) strategic vision and initiatives, with the aim to improve its overall competitiveness and maximize value creation for customers across the segment. This includes development of new markets; development of new business models and strategic partnerships; determination of the strategic need for specific products and services; leadership of the strategic plan in conjunction with finance; and construction of an optimal operating model that appropriately balances cost and local market expertise. The role will also be responsible for driving go-to-market strategies that drive healthy tension across the segment. This leader translates objectives into strategic plans with a medium to long term view.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads and sets direction for growth of EXP through developing a product and go to market strategy that include customer acquisition and retention initiatives;  SEM, direct marketing, and brand awareness campaigns. 

  • Ensures volume KPI targets are consistently met or exceeded. 

  • Leads efforts to build Pharmacy franchise through direct-to-consumer and business-to-business commercial arrangements. 

  • Prospects for and contracts with private label and central fill clients. 

  • Develops and evaluates financial strategies for EXP with regard to long-term operational goals, budgets and forecasts.  Provides insight and direction to both short-term and long-term growth plan of EXP. 

  • Owns oversight for financial performance of the business unit including, but not limited to forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, pricing, contract/client profitability, capital project economics and tracking/reporting of strategic initiatives and results delivered.

  • Develops and maintains Pharmacy budget and forecast, managing financial risks and opportunities for the business accordingly. 

  • Reconciles forecasted project economics and performance to actual margin/savings including the impact of variances on returns. 

  • Provides counsel to direct leadership team to ensure achievement of financial objectives. 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15+ years of experience working in senior leadership, with a proven background successfully leading teams in strategy and business development.

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree strongly preferred in Business or related field.

  • Proven track record growing organizations to be competitive and successful in the healthcare market.

  • Consultative mindset with the ability to work with others to elicit information, to think objectively and analytically and to influence outcomes positively.

  • Fact-based problem solver with the ability to evaluate alternative courses of action and make sound management decisions.

  • Experience with cross-functional initiatives, with a high degree of complexity.

  • Strong executive presence with the ability to present and develop presentations.

  • Demonstrates ability to lead, influence and problem-solve across various Cigna businesses.

  • Strong modeling capability and financial management skills.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strategic acumen.

  • Able to manage multiple priorities and deal with ambiguity.

  • Able to work independently and as part of a collaborative group.

This role is Virtual which allows most work to be performed at home. Employees must be fully vaccinated if they choose to come onsite.

This position is not eligible to be performed in Colorado.
