Job Description

The Vice President (VP) of Enterprise and Affordability Strategy is Cigna's most senior strategy officer and is responsible for leading the development and ongoing monitoring of Cigna's enterprise strategy, including the strategy for its four growth platforms - Health Services, US Commercial Markets, US Government and International Markets â€“ as well as our enterprise affordability strategy.

The VP of Enterprise and Affordability Strategy will guide the organization’s multi-year business direction. In this capacity, the person will be responsible for driving the most consequential enterprise decisions at the executive level, complex enterprise issues that transcend businesses, and critical / unresolved strategies within the businesses. This will manage the overall enterprise strategy development and review process as well as oversee the ongoing development of strategic frameworks, market insights, trend assessments, and business cases to ensure alignment across the enterprise. The role will also oversee the ongoing development and activation of Cigna’s top strategic priority – delivering transformative, market-leading affordability.

Key to success in this position is the ability to work across the organization at all levels creating partnerships to drive growth; with direct accountability for business strategies and access that aligns with the company’s objectives, and anticipates market challenges.  Finally, this leader will need to be a true business executive who personifies Cigna’s high performance culture and values.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees, drives and develops strategic, and operational initiatives for Cigna's overall enterprise, Health Services, U.S. Commercial Markets US Government, and International Markets business areas as well as Cigna’s enterprise affordability strategy.

  • Proactively ideates, identifies, develops, and drives key strategic initiatives that deliver long-term profitable growth at the enterprise level.

  • Oversees the development strategies including business / opportunity assessments throughout the year.  Partners closely with the leadership team on recommendations.

  • Provides governance and strategic oversight of initiatives and accountable for all deliverables produced by the team.

  • Leads the affordability organization in partnership with the Affordability Governance and Execution SVP. In this capacity, the role will oversee the continued development of a multi-year strategic roadmap, balance near-term affordability actions with long-term repositioning of the company, determine investment priorities, drive the strategic design of new affordability initiatives, and serve as an executive member of the organization’s Total Cost of Care Committee.

  • Works closely with other members of Cigna’s leadership team to establish strategic plans and investment priorities focused on expanding our competitive advantage, enhancing relationships with key customers, and driving profitable growth.

  • Works collaboratively with business unit partners and corporate support teams to drive enterprise strategy execution, and partner on segment or functional strategy projects.

  • Partners with senior-level leaders across functions and channels to develop near- and long-term visions and roadmaps.

  • Creates, builds alignment and implements an enterprise strategy that will position Cigna competitively in the marketplace. Through collaborative interface with matrix partners and multiple P&L leaders across the country, sets a multi-year growth strategy that enables a competitive advantage and sustainable affordability for clients and customers.

  • Drives and plans thought leadership strategy to make an impact on the biggest challenges facing the health care industry.

  • Oversees the analysis of business metrics collected at the financial and project levels to verify objectives are progressing as planned, and to direct additional actions to be taken when problems or risks are identified.

  • Acts as a thought partner and trusted advisor to senior executives and business leaders by staying abreast of global M&A events, macroeconomic trends, regulatory developments and other public market information.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree required - Master’s degree strongly preferred in Business or related field.

  • Minimum of 20+ years of experience working in strategic leadership, with a proven background successfully leading teams in strategy planning.

  • 15+ years of relevant healthcare consulting or senior leader experience.

  • Management consulting and business development experience, as well as a proven track record at prior companies to be competitive and successful in the healthcare market.

  • Well-honed consulting skills enabling the individual to work with others to elicit information, to think objectively and analytically and to influence outcomes positively.

  • Fact-based problem solver with the ability to evaluate alternative courses of action and make sound management decisions.

  • Experience with cross-functional initiatives, with a high degree of complexity.

  • Ability to present and develop presentations.

  • Demonstrates ability to lead, influence and problem-solve across various Cigna businesses.

  • Strong modeling capability and financial management skills.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strategic acumen.

  • Able to manage multiple priorities and deal with ambiguity.

  • Able to work independently and as part of a collaborative group.

This role is WAH/Flex which allows most work to be performed at home.

Employees must be fully vaccinated if they choose to come onsite.

This position is not eligible to be performed in Colorado.
