The successful candidate will be a hands-on executive with a broad set of skills to lead a complex global treasury function. Although this position requires a thorough understanding of Treasury, the Assistant Treasurer is expected to bring a focus on results, drive change and continuous improvement and innovation. The Assistant Treasurer will partner with the Treasurer to extend BMS’ momentum in the overall transformation and evolution of the organization as the team continues to integrate one of the largest acquisitions in BioPharma history. The candidate will lead Capital Markets, Foreign Currency & Interest Rate Risk Management, Investments, Capital Planning, International Treasury, and Benefit Investments.
Key Responsibilities include:
Build strong partnerships across functional and operating groups within the organization. Identify opportunities and needs as they arise.
Cross-functional coordination across Tax, Legal, Controllership and Business Development functions to optimize treasury delivery, including across acquisition and new business development initiatives.
Partner in finance due diligence and structuring of Treasury support for M&A activity.
Lead integration of treasury activities for acquired businesses.
Support the rating agency relationships and ongoing communications with the rating agencies.
Planning and implementation of optimal long-range capital structure and the development of strategies to retain optimal structures on an ongoing basis.
Overall responsibility for managing $40B+ debt complex and related deleveraging/interest rate strategy.
Monitor developments in capital markets to ensure specific short-term and long-term funding strategies and sources are identified for worldwide operations.
Manage bank relationships and maintain revolving credit facility. Lead “share of wallet†analysis; recommend strategies to appropriately balance the wallet.
Monitor the performance of and services provided by global banks, to include review and confirmation of credit quality and ratings of all banks the Company partners with.
Develop and strengthen relationships with financial institutions and ensure that the corporation receives the most favorable terms for financing and banking services; explore expense reduction and revenue opportunities where applicable.
Analyze forecasts and work with Tax, Corporate Reporting, and FP&A to develop operating cash flow forecasts and determine the amount and appropriate mix of financing to meet domestic and international cash requirements.
Ensure global cash assets of the organization are monitored, invested and managed effectively.
Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risk in complex foreign exchange exposure.
Maintenance of SOX and related controls for treasury function.
Establish department budget and manage resources in line with budget.
Lead the recruiting, training and career development efforts for the organization and support Finance wide talent development, specifically to ensure that the finance organization attracts, develops, and retains the best people to achieve desired business results.
Lead or participate in additional projects as needed.
Requirements:
BS Accounting/Finance, MBA preferred. At a minimum of 18 years of experience in some combination of proven executive leadership in treasury and finance roles with a complex, global organization of significant scale.
Strong understanding of risk management, including foreign exchange and interest rate risk management, capital markets (debt, equity), asset liability matching, etc.
Experience working with financial institutions, rating agencies and a thorough knowledge of domestic and international finance and commercial banking practices.
Strong analytical skills combined with functional technical knowledge of treasury operations.
Proven track record of success in a collaborative and participatory management style; and possess the ability to work closely with professionals and staff at all levels. Excellent listening skills.
Culturally conscious and able to lead, influence and partner with associates in all functions on a global basis.
A demonstrated ability to drive transformation, process improvement and strategy for a treasury function.
Strong partnership and collaborative style with outstanding communication skills (written, verbal and presentation). Engaging, informative, brief, to the point.
Fast mover, nimble and decisive, balancing control with flexibility, procedure with simplicity, while creating an environment of performance and results.
High attention to detail as well as an ability to achieve results through delegation.
