VBA Programmer/Business Analyst

Role will involve developing new (and enhancing existing) automated programs in Excel VBA, pulling and pushing data to our mainframe business system. Secondarily there will be PowerBI analysis work developing and launching numerous tracking dashboards for the business to use.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Working within the materials group across three Mercury Marine Manufacturing plants on the Fond-du-Lac campus:

  • Plt 4: Steel Machining: Gears/Shafts/Heat Treat
  • Plt 17: Aluminium Casting
  • Plt 98: Stainless Steel Propellor manufacturing

We have several transactional processes that we would like to automate within our manufacturing plants – shipping, receiving, manufacturing order manipulation, scrap transactions, etc. This individual will work with existing code that needs enhancing as well as develop code from scratch.

This will be a hands-on role where the student will be expected to first understand the business process in detail through observation and interview and then work through the development and testing of the developed applications, including producing any necessary work instructions for the programs.

There will also be opportunity to enhance and develop various PowerBI dashboards, tracking different critical key performance indicators for the manufacturing plants – inventory status, output metrics, capacity planning data, etc that will be used by the business to assistant in strategic and tactical production planning.

Education Requirements

  • At least two years of coarse work completed in a bachelor’s degree program for computer science/programming/engineering or similar

Baseline Skill Expectations

  • Excellent Excel VBA coding skills in MS Excel, not limited to pivot tables, array management, data manipulation, power query, error handling, debugging and deployment
  • Proficient in PowerBI
  • Meticulous coding discipline and documentation
  • Technical and logical capability to solve problems
  • Must be able to coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight required
  • A curious nature and a desire to improve

The Ideal Candidate

You will be working for the Director of Material Planning and Production Scheduling, who is a self-taught VBA coder. Interest in manufacturing processes and how data management, manipulation and automation can be used to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing processes. Excited by challenges and motivated by your own successes. You will both learn and teach during your time in Mercury Marine and this role will help you develop your own skillsets for a strong career in data related fields.
