Job Summary

The Value Stream Manager over Lamination is a key member of the leadership team and reports directly to the Director of Operations. The Value Stream Manager provides general management over Lamination and is responsible for the day-to-day KPI’s of the production system.  This is a decision maker role to continuously improve proactive safety, product quality, schedule attainment, and efficiency of operations. This position is responsible to lead and direct the work of others while using the tools in the Lean Manufacturing toolbox to direct single-piece flow, line balancing, process standardization, systematic problem solving, and waste reduction.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Proactively remove unsafe conditions/actions to ensure health and safety of all employees remains our number one priority.
  • Communicate business objectives, strategies, and SQDP performance to all employees through a tiered daily management system within the value stream to maximize individual and collective contributions and relentlessly improve the performance of the value stream.
  • Direct business operations for the value stream, including the current-state value stream map, future-state value stream map, action plans to achieve the desired future-state including accountability to the desired business metrics.
  • Prioritize improvement opportunities and help teach/facilitate a systematic problem-solving model to ensure problems are solved at the root and don’t return.
  • Provide hands on leadership and management while utilizing standardization, identification of abnormal, kaizen, and the sharing of best practices to deliver best in class operational performance.
  • Build a high-performance team culture that recognizes and rewards excellence and encourages individuals to strive for performance improvement within the business.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing a cross training plan that supports production needs while taking ergonomic considerations into the rotational strategy.
  • Partner with all functional areas to positively impact culture and clearly communicate the business objectives.
  • Proactively manage new product introductions to ensure they are successfully implemented on time.

Expected Areas of Competence

  • Ability to engage and motivate others while instilling trust both inside and outside of the value stream.
  • Strong background in lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and other production related models.
  • General knowledge of laminates and/or composites production.  Experience in these processes preferred. 
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Experience in project planning and execution with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Communication techniques to act as a coach and mentor to help employees reach their full potential. 
  • Passion for process standardization (standard work, visual work instructions, time studies, etc.) so that abnormal conditions are extremely apparent and remediated using systematic problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to convey information to all levels of the organization through a Tiered-Daily Management approach to Gemba. 
  • Must be able to interact with a diverse group of people to create an environment that is equitable, inclusive, and cooperative.
  • Ability to make time bounded decisions characterized by logic and reasoning while keeping the organization’s vision and values at the forefront.
  • Ability to facilitate and lead using innovative approaches, addressing of problems and opportunities, and implementation and acceptance of change within the workplace.
  • Systematic Problem Solving (8D, 8-Step, or similar) to solve problems at the root.
  • Takt-based line movement systems and the ability to use Yamazumi stack-bar processes to line balance.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Knowledge of human resource principles and practices.

 

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in a related field, required; Master’s degree preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
