Enterprise Technology Operations Director

This role is within the Technology COO.
Enterprise Technology is a critical HSBC Global Technology function that’s support the Functions of the Group, Finance, Risk & Compliance, DCOO, and Corporate Services.
The Enterprise Technology Director is the senior Technology leader accountable for the effective business management, investment portfolio management and transformation of Enterprise Technology within HSBC Technology.
What you will be doing;
- Global business management of the Enterprise Technology function, ensuring all operational processes are effective, including:
- Cost and FTE Management: Drive cost savings and FTE management improvements towards best in class. Developing and monitoring operational metrics and processes that are meaningful to Enterprise Technology, and subsequent Grow/Protect/Streamline initiatives to achieve Technology cost saving and FTE Transformation targets.
- Technology People & Location Strategy: Develop and execute the Enterprise Technology function strategic global resource management and location strategy, in line with Group Technology. Ensure the right people, with the right skills, in the right locations are attracted, retained and developed.
- Technology Sourcing & Vendor Management: Approval of 3rd party vendors and challenge where necessary, leveraging global scale to optimise vendor performance and value, reduce run-rate expenses and budgeted capital expenditures, improve quality (Services, operations, product, supply chain, etc.), improve process efficiency and cycle time, and at the same time measure risk reduction and compliance.
- People Management: Drive key people processes in partnership with HR, including Comms, performance and compensation
- Lead the technology transformation by implementing the Global Technology transformation objectives into executable programmes of work within Enterprise Technology, from strategy through to implementation. Communicate the strategies and objectives within Enterprise Technology, and identify any risks regarding changes and develop a strategy to overcome or address these. Ensure the Transformation metrics and benefits are delivered according to a plan that is grounded with Service Line owners.
- Manage the Portfolio by defining, overseeing and controlling the Change and Transformation Portfolio for the Enterprise Technology function, ensuring transparency of portfolio health from both budget and delivery perspectives. Management of both the annual Technology investment portfolio and the ongoing portfolio governance for Enterprise Technology including project/programme forecasting, delivery assurance and compliance with Business Transformation Framework (BTF) etc.
- Provide dedicated support to the GBGF CIO (as required) to ensure effective management of the Technology function. This will include, but not be limited to, taking on leadership of specific programmes (e.g., control remediation), leading the development of technology strategy and managing key controls.
Requirements
What you will bring to the role;
To be successful in this role you should have:
- Expertise and knowledge in relation to the Global Technology Function and the services that the Technology COO function provides
- Demonstrated business knowledge, ideally experience of working within a complex global business unit
- Demonstrated knowledge of technology development and infrastructure and how this can be used to meet business needs
- Practical experience of major business transformation with global project management experience
- Prior experience in a senior leadership position, ideally within a global banking environment
- Ideally, front and back office experience within a global banking environment
- Financial and accounting acumen
- Ability to manage and mitigate operational risk effectively
- Experience of managing within a complex matrix environment
- Experience working across cultures
- Experience of managing and coordinating a globally dispersed team
- Knowledge of the external environment - regulatory, political, competitor and market
