U.S. Commercial Sales Effectiveness Intern

Our local market sales teams are responsible for managing network relationships with hospitals and physicians in their associated U.S. region/market, selling Cigna products to local employers, and working with these employers to manage their employees’ benefits. The Sales Institute team supports these local markets in all training efforts- including early careers programs, onboarding, new Cigna product/service training, as well as various annual sales programs.  In this internship, you’ll have an opportunity to work with the Sales Institute team, supporting training efforts for sales, client management, and provider network contracting teams.

About the U.S Commercial Sales Institute Internship Program

This 10-12 week (May- August) internship within U.S. Commercial Sales Institute is designed to teach participants about the healthcare industry, local market functions, sales trainings and Cigna's business - all while developing business acumen in a dynamic and flexible work environment.

Responsibilities:

As a Sales Institute intern, you will be assigned various responsibilities supporting the Performance and Execution Enablement team within U.S. Commercial Operations. Activities will be led by a Sales Institute Program Manager, many which will focus on Sales Academy, Cigna’s Early Career Sales Program for recent graduates. Some examples of responsibilities include:

  • Partner with our Early Career and Diversity Hiring team to identify targeted schools and recruitment strategies for Cigna's Sales Academy Sales Program.
  • Work closely with internal and external individuals to accomplish recruiting goals and objectives for our Sales organization.
  • Work directly with college career centers and students about Cigna sales opportunities for early career hires. Work with Marketing and our Early Career and Diversity hiring team to develop promotional and social media strategies for college recruiting.
  • Manage and complete tasks for our Sales Academy program, our Sales organization and our Sales Effectiveness team. This may include conducting audits of Sales course curriculums and presentations to update and refine messaging as well as coordinating course schedules, communications, and invitations.

Intern Project:

All Sales Interns will be assigned a capstone project that challenges your problem-solving and innovation skills. Interns will work on their assigned project throughout the summer by using the knowledge they have gained, self-study, and in partnership with various Subject Matter Experts.

Learning Series:

Interns will be exposed to a variety of lectures and presentations given by members of the broader Cigna community and Sales organization so you can get a feel for the wide array of roles that exist at Cigna and how they fit together. You will also be given the opportunity to attend specially selected courses offered to our Early Careers Sales Academy program for a deeper understanding of Cigna’s value proposition and how we present ourselves in the markets.

Enterprise Community:

Cigna interns, across all areas of the company, will come together for various learning sessions throughout the program. This will provide you with a broader network of students in similar roles that serve different parts of the business. You will learn more about the company as a team and be able to connect throughout the 10-12 weeks.

U.S Commercial Sales Community:

You will have the opportunity for visibility with senior management, as well as one-on-one learning with training and sales professionals who will share their knowledge and experience and assume roles as individual coaches and mentors.

All U.S Commercial interns will be given opportunities to network together over the course of the 10-12 weeks. This will provide U.S. Sales Interns with a close-knit cohort, specific to the U.S. Commercial organization.

Compensation:

Interns will earn a highly competitive hourly rate in addition to gaining valuable work experience and exposure to potential future Early Career Program offerings.

Internship Qualifications

  • Open to Juniors and rising Seniors, preferred completion of 3 years towards a Bachelor’s degree (rising senior) in Business, Healthcare, or related fields
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and deal with changing priorities
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • 3.0 GPA preferred
  • Must possess some sales experience (internship, retail, cold calling, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, especially Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Locations: Virtual/Work At Home
  • This internship would have a potential extension opportunity into Fall and/or Spring
    • Summer: 30 – 40 hours/week  for 10-12 weeks
    • Fall: 15 hours/week for 16 weeks
    • Spring: 15 hours/week for 16 weeks
