Organizational Setting
FAO Afghanistan is investing, across all 34 provinces, in resilience reinforcing actions that focus on protecting agriculture livelihoods and local ecosystems, boosting local production of nutritious foods and cash-incomes, and safeguarding critical agriculture sectoral development gains achieved over the past couple of decades through revitalizing rural markets and economy. In 2022-2023, FAO will, under the life-saving assistance Outcome (1) of the UN Transitional Engagement Framework (TEF), focus on the following four priority actions: (i) Safeguarding Wheat Seed Security, (ii) Enhancing Local Production of Nutritious Food, (iii) Livestock Protection and Dairy Sector Support, and (iv) Restoring Irrigation Structures to Boost Cash Incomes. Additionally, FAO will contribute towards resilience building activities under Outcome 2 of the TEF.
Reporting Lines
The Travel Assistant will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative and the direct supervision of the Assistant FAOR (Administration).
Technical Focus
Provision of travel support services to all FAO Afghanistan personnel.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Initiate travel authorizations (for both domestic/local and international travel) ensuring adherence to travel plans, security clearances, terms of references and liaison with UNHAS/travel agencies;
- Process travel expense claims (TECs), in accordance with the Organization's rules and policies; verify travel performed against appropriate entitlements;
- Identify, review and claim refunds of travel costs from travel agents or travellers and take necessary follow up action;
- Process authorized lump sum payments, travel advances and post-factum travel claims and verify their correctness;
- Provide travel assistance to all FAO Afghanistan personnel on a day-to-day basis for travel arrangements and entitlements based on the Organization's rules and policies; liaise with relevant travel agents to ensure that the Organization obtains the best service and price for all commercial related travel;
- Brief/de-brief FAO Afghanistan personnel on issues relating to travel procedures and documentation etc.;
- Extract, input, maintain and verify correctness of travel records in the organization's corporate travel system to ensure proper accounting transactions related to travel costs;
- Assist in clearing outstanding travel-related balances through reviewing travelers' recovery lists and taking the necessary follow-up action;
- Perform other related duties as required.Job Requirements:

Minimum Requirements
- University (Bachelor) degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Tourism/Travel, Accounting or a closely related field.
- At least three (3) years of relevant work experience in office, travel management and/or administrative support.
- Working knowledge (level C) of English and local languages (Pashto and/or Dari).

- Previous experience with the UN is considered a strong asset;
