Becoming a Trainee Pest Control Officer is an exciting opportunity to deliver pest control services and provide practical ancillary support in connection with pest control.
We are looking to hire a trainee in Pest Control to join Regional Enterprise (a Joint Venture between Capita and the London Borough of Barnet) to control public health in accordance with the Council’s Statutory duties and policies.
Training will be provided to allow the successful candidate to inspect customers’ premises, advise treatment options and carry out the most appropriate measure, as well as clearing up any areas littered with work-related debris. You should also be able to work efficiently to complete all duties without damaging customers’ property. Great customer service is essential as you are the face of the London Borough of Barnet council when dealing with the public.
What you will be doing:
Undertaking practical inspections and assessments relating to pests, carry out treatments and baiting/monitoring programs, provide advice to customers including identification of pests, and all other activities associated with the work of the service which includes rodent and insect control in council, residential and commercial premises including food businesses.
Completing prompt treatment and visit records on the relevant database and produce customer treatment/contract reports as necessary.
Liaising where necessary with Regulatory Services colleagues and other agencies and to provide expert advice and guidance to management relating to pest control
Receiving payments from customers, issue receipts and submit monies and related documentation to customer services colleagues
Being responsible for housekeeping and appropriate, safe use of equipment, stock and poisonous materials allocated to the pest control service.
Being responsible for housekeeping and appropriate, safe use of corporate vehicles allocated to the pest control service including driving and refuelling them and being familiar with their servicing and maintenance requirements and history.
Taking part in any allocated marketing role and to seek and develop commercial opportunities including contracts with new customers with the group manager.
Complying with relevant duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and any other associated legislation and relevant corporate policies and procedures.

Ability to work without direct supervision whilst on the job and to work under seasonal pressure
Willing to work in conditions which some may find unpleasant (e.g. confined or dirty environments, at heights, with dead rodents, animals)
Ability to maintain accurate records and process payments
Excellent customer service skills
Good verbal communication skills
Ability to deal with difficult clients
Current clean full driving license
Able to lift equipment and materials
Ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces
A willingness to learn and undertake industry standard qualifications
