Aviva is currently seeking a Commercial Mid-Market Underwriter to join our Thames Valley Trading Team. This a fantastic opportunity to be a part of a successful and experienced trading team, dealing with Brokers across the area.
The role is home based, so ideally you will be based within the Thames Valley area with the opportunity and expectation you will travel to see brokers and colleagues across the area and region.
You will provide an outstanding service to our customers and brokers. You’ll drive new business and service existing customers, build professional relationships, directly contributing to the underwriting profit and loss, trading, and service delivery goals.

A bit about the job:
- Develop, build, and strengthen positive relationships with aligned customers/brokers, providing technical support and dealing with all queries
- Influence key contacts in the marketplace through business development and customer engagement
- Understand what matters to customers and brokers to provide the right solution and deliver the best outcomes that reflect the Aviva underwriting strategy and values
- Embrace, develop and deliver our underwriting strategy
- Apply the core principles of insurance to everyday situations e.g., advising on the scope of policy cover, risk management strategy, identifying potential claims and arranging insurance that will meet customer needs
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
- Good underwriting knowledge in Commercial Mid-market business, with proven track record of winning quality New Business and retaining existing customers
- Experience with applying underwriting knowledge to improve processes and procedures
- Experience with managing your own underwriting caseload within a regulatory environment
- Excellent business development and customer engagement/relationship building skills
- Strong communication, negotiation skills and a Diploma in CII or a willingness to study for and obtain the CII qualifications
