Junior Trader – Chicago, IL
ADM Oilseeds Protein Trading
This is a full-time, exempt level position.
 
Position Summary:
This is an intermediate level position which will report to the Export Protein Trader. The primary role for the position will be to work as a part of the oilseed protein trading team in the marketing and execution of oilseed meals in all the major North American feed markets. This position will be responsible for assisting in the development of strategies that match with our corporate objectives and executing these strategies utilizing corporate and staff resources as deemed necessary.

Job Responsibilities:

- As part of a team, creates, implements, and supports the business plan, including marketing strategy, asset utilization, market development, strategic alignments, logistics, and divisional objectives
- Analyzes and forecasts global protein market trends and competitor activities, and exhibits the flexibility to revise existing strategies
- Develops a good working knowledge of crush asset operations, freight spreads, and arbitrage opportunities for multiple plants and destinations
- Interacts with key customers accounts and maintains ongoing and regular communications with customers to foster strong business relationships and enhance customer service
- Seeks out new marketing opportunities that will profitably enhance company assets
- Develops a clear understanding of various modes of transportation including truck, rail, barge, vessel, and container shipments to maximize freight efficiencies
- Works closely with various internal groups to create opportunities and ensure the most cost effective means for coordinating ADM’s operations
- Develops a fundamental knowledge of animal nutrition, and understands the relationships between other complementary and substitute feed products
- Develops a clear understanding of trade and government policies and trends at the local and international level
- Constantly works on individual personal development within the company, and assists in the development and training of other employees
- Prepares & presents reports to management detailing customer issues & market opportunities
- Understands and has strict adherence to corporate compliance policies, safety systems and programs

Knowledge and Required Skills:
University degree in agriculture or business (i.e. economics, finance, accounting), supplemented with a minimum of one (1) year of experience in the marketing of commodities and related food, feed and/or fuel products in North America. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.  Candidates should also:

  • Demonstrate capacity to excel within high risk, fast-paced work environment
  • Proven ability to assess risk and exercise sound judgment in making decisions
  • Demonstrate negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to manage effectively within a team based work environment
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with customers, suppliers, as well as internal and external business partners

Relocation is available with this position.
