This is a second shift opportunity managing a team of 10-15 people.

Position Summary:

Supervise and coordinate the activities of the tool room personnel in assigned areas. Ensure the effective utilization of people and equipment by being able to execute in a planned & scheduled environment which would allow the department to obtain maximum output, and to stimulate strong, effective communications between all levels of the Company. Also, responsible to drive employee involvement in extra activities and must cooperate with the Union and outside contractors as needed.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assign skilled trades people and general laborers to meet shop schedules
  • Ensure a safe working environment, enforce safety regulations, and make sure housekeeping issues are preformed.
  • Explain Company policies to employees and enforce those policies.
  • Over-see job training, develop individuals work background, the work group flexibility through job rotation and remain accountable for the quality and quantity their output.
  • Give estimates of labor and materials for job assignments.
  • Establish and adjust work methods and procedures to meet maintenance and production schedules considering capacities of machines and personnel.
  • Communicate with customers regarding costs and deliveries.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements:

  • Knowledge of business and management principles in resource allocation, human resources, labor contract understanding, leadership techniques, and the overall coordination of people.
  • Casual knowledge of Plant, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering
  • Thorough knowledge of machining techniques
  • Supervision skills
  • Record keeping skills
  • Ability to logically think through a problem to its timely solution (RCA).
  • Thorough knowledge of Safety regulations.
  • Ability to judge employee's capabilities and assign the most capable person to a job.
  • Working knowledge of a variety of machines and processes from design to use and to be able to sense when something is wrong or likely to go wrong before a problem is recognized.
  • Computer skills necessary to update/correct timekeeping systems and labor recording.
  • Strong time management skills for my direct reports and myself.
  • Ability to consider the costs, benefits, and risks of actions and chose the most appropriate by using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of various solutions to a problem.
  • Ability to get along with diverse personalities while remaining, tactful, professional and flexible.
  • Verbal and written skills necessary to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization

Experience:

  • Journeymen Tool and Die, Mold Maker or Machinist preferred or equivalent education
  • 4 - 5 years’ experience in a supervisory role desirable.
