Job purpose

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a TEST TECHNICIAN.  The TEST TECHNICIAN will be primarily responsible for the durability, environmental, performance, noise, vibration, harshness testing, analysis and build of vehicle components primarily focused on rotating electrical machines and electronics for both the commercial vehicle and light vehicle automotive segments.

Key responsibilities

  • Performs assigned laboratory tests, ranging from moderate to high degrees of complexity on electrical/mechanical automotive driveline components and machines.
  • Conducts experiments, records data, and formally reports the results to internal customers and engineers, with a high degree of quality and professionalism.
  • Supports preparation of test equipment, software, and hardware instrumentation.
  • Support preparation of test set-ups and components under test.
  • Reinforces continuous improvement in test lab functionality and operations
  • Provides input, guidance, and solutions to internal customers and supervisor in order to resolve issues/constraints appearing before or during tests.
  • Works cross functionally with other groups to overcome issues/constraints and complete difficult tasks.
  • Works to complete tasks correctly and on time. Actively communicates findings, issues, constraints, delays, & progress to internal customers and supervisor.
  • Moves progress forward on multiple projects simultaneously without direct supervisor involvement.
  • Participates in giving and receiving training. Able to learn on the job in real time.
  • Willing to develop skills and grow within a dynamic test and low volume manufacturing environment.
  • Maintains equipment and work area in compliance with local 5S protocol, keeping all areas looking professional and audit ready.
  • Provides technical support for all related duties in the engineering area as required.  Flexible and open minded to all business needs.
  • Follows safety practices, conducts activities with high degree of discipline and safety, operates machinery safely. Communicates unsafe situations/behavior to supervisor and actively participates in safety audits.

What we’re looking for

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associates Degree in Engineering field is preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in an electrical and/or mechanical product development/testing environment preferred
  • Automotive/commercial driveline components, specifically electric machines is preferred
  • Prior experience in vehicle driveline torque transfer component testing, including electric machines, electrical and electronic systems is preferred
  • Experience operating laboratory test equipment typical to product development environments. This includes but is not limited to; dynamometers, performance testing equipment, data acquisition and machine control software.  Typical data capture would involve temperature, torque, speed, current, voltage, resistance, & power
  • A good working knowledge of blueprint reading and interpretation including both mechanical and electrical schematics is required.
  • Solid troubleshooting/problem solving skills are required
  • Proficient at technical writing
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience using Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to cross train and work in multiple departments is required
  • Able to lift 35lbs, stand on feet for minimum 6 hours per day, and work OT as directed by management
