About the role:

We're looking for someone with proven experience and a passion in Dev Ops, Change and Release principles and Testing best practices to join as Platform Lead in the ASOS technology team, to own and enhance the ASOS Tech Path to Live.

You’ll be working with Principal Engineers, Engineering teams, stakeholders and your peers in Engineering and Operations to ensure that we have highly available path to live environments and appropriate change and release processes that meet the testing needs of all of our engineering teams, enabling an exceptionally high level of change while maintaining operational excellence.  You’ll report into the Head of Operations and Reliability Engineering.

Your goals will be: to reduce deployment friction / time to release; to reduce change related incidents; to drive and support earlier testing within engineering teams thereby reducing the dependency on large scale environments; to drive improvements in maturity of testing within engineering teams; to evolve change and release models to keep them relevant and useful in line with advances in engineering, tooling and automation.

You will establish and evangelise guiding principles and ensure that we continually evolve and mature, while maintaining Production and non-Production availability.

You will work closely with your teams, ensuring they have the support they need to continually improve the reliability of the integrated test environments, reduce infrastructure costs and enable delivery team velocity.

What you'll be doing:

  • Liaising with key stakeholders to understand the needs of Engineering and Operations teams in relation to the path to live and its release models, creating new relationships and understanding where we can help improve reliability and velocity.
  • Creating and owning a roadmap with clear milestones and dependencies, and working with your teams and other dependencies to align on delivery against those milestones.
  • Being the recognised authority for all things path to live through effective communication and engagement.
  • Leading your teams seeking to bring out the best in all team members (both permanent and third party), aligning their responsibilities with their strengths and career goals, seeking high engagement, performance and retention.
  • Managing third party engagements, ensuring we have the right mix of permanent and third-party engineers and analysts in each area.
  • Ensuring that our change and release models are striking the right balance between enabling delivery velocity and maintaining visibility of major change and reducing change related incidents.
  • Driving down change related incidents, using data to drive continuous improvement across Tech.
  • Improving the availability and quality of the path to live environments and ensuring that test coverage continues to remain relevant, in line with business and technical changes.
  • Managing environment costs through visibility and identification of cost optimization opportunities.
  • Working with programmes and platforms to understand their testing requirements and collaborating on test strategies to ensure that testing happens early, continuously and is owned at the right level.

Who we'd like to meet:

A credible influencer with a strong background in leadership, testing and environment management, change and release management, agile ways of working and Dev Ops, with experience of the following:

  • Working in a large and complex Tech department with a variety of technologies and ways of working.
  • Working with multiple and varied stakeholders, balancing complex and competing needs.
  • Leading both internal and external teams and working with a combination of onshore/offshore/nearshore and remote working teams.
  • Experience working with Azure or equivalent vendors.
