Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Maintain a view of the broad technology landscape. Find and cultivate relationships with external organizations that own or are developing technology and/or methods with potential commercial value.

  • Establish a presence within target ecosystems – attend events, participate in conferences, maintain and develop connections with individuals, etc.

  • Develop ecosystem maps via: Search Tools (Google, PatSnap, etc), conference/consortium engagement, and visits with target institutions (govt, NGO, companies and universities).

  • Consolidate ecosystem learnings to identify and provide actionable insight regarding: Technology/market trends, potential solutions for current market challenges, new market opportunities and potential domains of strategic intent and gauge viability.

  • Propose technologies and partnerships to explore, and prepare technical briefs to support Innovation Development Manager’s efforts define the strategy and drive business adoption.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to make emerging technology recommendations that can improve organizational performance. Includes MVP exploration, and determining business fit.

  • Apply technology principles, theories, and concepts across many fields. Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. 

  • Support Due Diligence activities as they relate to target technology acquisitions 

  • Works under general direction, but must be comfortable with ambiguity and takes the initiative to determine and develop approaches to solutions.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • 12+ Years engineering, research, scientific or related experience with Bachelor’s Degree 

  • 10+ years with a Masters Degree.

  • 8+ years with PhD.

  • Strong curiosity, creativity, and futuristic thinking about business possibilities. Ability to deal with ambiguity.

  • Strong ability to interface effectively internally and externally with cross-functional groups to define and execute overall requirements.

  • Good early stage project management skills.

  • Driven entrepreneur with a high risk tolerance.

  • Ability to express new technology in terms of business/market value propositions

  • Experience working with Marketing and Operations preferred.

  • Experience conducting technology analysis and determining fit to business needs.

  • Ability to lead the day-to-day execution of technology assessment efforts, including analysis of alternatives, characterization and quantification of performance, and comprehension and development of requirements based on mission needs

  • Demonstrate proficiency in multiple scientific fields, either thru work experience or documented publications (patent or paper)

  • Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as the Google suite of products.

  • Ability to travel up to 20%.
