Job Description

This is an exciting time to join us at our Phoenix, Arizona plant! The Personal Healthcare area of the P&G business is rapidly expanding. The Phoenix, Arizona Plant’s Health, Safety and Environment department is looking for a highly motivated Technical Safety Program Leader to build Technical Safety capability at the site and lead the design, installation and startup of projects focused on Technical Safety systems (Process Systems, Structural Integrity, Welding, Electrical Power Systems, Pressure Vessels, Thermal Systems). We are looking for a highly technical leader with a sense of urgency and proven capability working with teams to deliver regulatory compliance and successful startups. In this role you will be heavily focused on site projects, developing the site’s technical safety program, and finding solutions for identified issues. This role will lead our efforts in identifying and driving out losses in technical safety programs and building long term capability into technical safety systems. Daily work could encompass any of the following:

  • Identifying, prioritizing, analyzing, and eliminating losses and compliance issues

  • Delivery and start-up of new equipment, initiatives, and projects 

  • Collaborating with technical experts, other functions, and other manufacturing sites to create the best solutions 

  • Creating learning programs and coaching and training technicians

  • Creating and improving standards to enable us to achieve the performance targets of technical safety programs

  • Supporting the Engineering organization in technical safety aspects of ongoing projects

  • Building Capability in all HS&E-related disciplines (Tech Safety, IH&S, Environmental)

  • Developing technical mastery in Process Systems, Structural Integrity, Welding, Electrical Power Systems, Pressure Vessels, Thermal Systems

  • Working cross functionally with site Engineering, site HS&E, business unit Engineering, business unit HS&E, Operations, Finance, and Purchasing

  • Gaining a deeper understanding of HS&E across all disciplines and how they fit with other key areas of the business. Within this role, you will gain experience working in a P&G facility and across the Personal Healthcare (PHC) business unit

Qualifications

EDUCATION Requirements:

A Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering or similar degrees (or other related degree and/or work-related experience).

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1+ year experience in a Health & Safety or Environment role either within a manufacturing site or in a corporate environment (P&G internship would suffice)

  • Successful completion of 1 or more classes in Process Safety

  • Knowledge or experience in at least one: personal safety, machine safety, chemical exposure control, structural integrity, thermal/combustion systems

  • Experience in reading and understanding P&ID’s (writing/editing is a plus)

  • Experience in regulatory program and compliance management, interpreting regulatory requirements, and developing solutions to meet those requirements. In-depth knowledge of the HS&E regulatory requirement is a plus

  • Ability and experience to benchmark other programs, internally and externally, and reapply best practices to drive improvements in delivering information (data, training, etc.)

  • Can understand existing safety programs and systems and provide innovative ways to deliver improved content

  • Demonstrated technical mastery in HS&E disciplines and demonstrated success of applying these skills in one or more manufacturing sites. Ability to learn additional mastery skills across other HS&E disciplines and ability to coach others in your area of expertise.

  • Ability to communicate action plans, strategies, and help requests to the right people with the appropriate sense of urgency to drive action

  • Successful experience working across different internal and external organizations (plant resources, engineering, site and Business Unit leadership, regional and corporate teams, legal, and external agencies) to drive change

  • Experience adjusting your level of detail, presentation style, and decision criteria to the audience

  • Ability to lead and implement a major improvement across a broad/diverse range of stakeholders

  • Able to evaluate HS&E needs, develop action plans

  • Able to energize site resources

  • Able to influence plant leadership and direction, and lead work successfully with internal and external resources

  • Travel is expected to be < 5% of the role. Flow to the work in other sites will occur on occasion

Just So You Know:

  • This position is an experienced technician (Tech 3) level role in the Phoenix plant’s Health, Safety and Environment department. Starting level will be Tech 2 until P&G Qualifications are achieved (to be completed in first year). Candidate expected to stay in role for a minimum of 4 years.
