Responsibilities:

Long-term development position for Tank Design Specialist, working on multiple projects within the Tanks Business Line Engineering/Design group.

Successful candidate expected to gain knowledge and experience of all Tanks Business Line structures, working on various projects, under the guidance of Senior Tank Design Specialists.

Design of Ambient Temperature Flat-Bottomed Storage Tanks and Spheres.

Design of large aboveground storage tanks of single, double, and full containment design for the storage of liquified gases at low and cryogenic temperatures.

Perform tank design calculations to API650, API 620, API 625, ACI376 and ASME VIII using in house software.

Prepare data sheets, material requisitions, procedures, and specifications.

Selection of tank construction materials.

Preparation of technical proposal documents, review of client specifications.

Technical bid evaluations for supplier and subcontractor selection.

Review vendor documents package. Manage the flow of information between engineering, field, vendor, and subcontractors.

Provide technical home office support to field construction team, including startup and commissioning procedures.

Participate in the development of standard design guides and in-house computer programs. Will include validation checks and accompanying documentation.

Participate in Constructability Workshops.

Consider safety, constructability, and cost savings through innovative design.

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering from an AET accredited University.

Must have PE License or be working towards PE License (or equivalent i.e Chartered Engineer, Professional Engineer Canada).

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Strong analytical skills.

Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management skills.

Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Commitment to safety, ethics, and integrity.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

As this is a development role, training will be provided. However, experience in the following is an advantage.

Design experience in performing calculations. As a minimum, should be able to demonstrate an aptitude for Engineering design.

Experience of all types of storage tank structures including ambient, flat bottomed storage tanks, spheres, and single, double, and full containment low temperature storage tanks.

Knowledge of tank design codes API 650, API 620, API 625, ASME VIII.

Knowledge of concrete tank design standards ACI376 and EN14620.

Knowledge of US regulatory codes and standards including ASCE 7, 49 CFR 193, NFPA 59A.

Should be familiar with materials selection, ASTM materials specifications and materials testing requirements.

Experience in Quality assurance requirements relating to the fabrication and construction of field erected tanks and vessels.

Knowledge of Welding processes and practices.

Knowledge of plate manufacturing processes and practices.

Experience in the use of FEA computer software.
