We are looking for a System Development Manager to build a new team within our Security function and own the future growth of our organisation at AWS in London. A successful System Development Manager in AWS will do much more than lead teams of System Engineers in writing code, launching new features, and triaging problems. You will set the standard for automation and working at scale, dive deep into technical issues, and work diligently to improve the customer experience. You are a believer in the SRE model of service delivery, and you are excited to solve problems of scale through automation. You are happiest when you are working with empowered, world-class engineers to meet world-class challenges. Finally, with your strong ownership bias, you have an infectious desire to continually improve how things are done.
You will be working with a broader team of industry-leading security experts working with UK customers to operate and continuously improve industry-leading security programs and processes. This broader team manages the underlying security programs and processes for personnel security, physical and logical accreditation, education, awareness and training, assurance, and cyber security.
Building, motivating and mentoring a world-class engineering team is the most important part of this role. You should have a proven track record in recruiting and retaining top talent and excel in day-to-day people and performance management tasks. A successful candidate will be a hands-on manager with an established background in developing and operating platforms and services, developing and hiring extraordinary talent, have strong technical ability, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a dynamic fast paced environment. You will drive the team’s software development roadmaps, leading prioritisation and design requirements. The Manager will be responsible for the lifecycle of their products from design, development, quality reviews and deployment, as well as operational excellence through continuous improvement, visibility, and standardisation to deliver highly available services to our customers.

Responsibilities include:
· Manage the design and development of new software solutions supporting our internal teams, including code reviews, testing, deployment and post-launch monitoring
· Lead and manage the team that drives organisational standards for operational excellence and resiliency
· Develop, communicate, and maintain project road maps
· Establish strong relationships with internal partners and peer stakeholders to understand and meet their needs while operating existing systems at a high quality
· Dive into details of issues, make technical contributions, and drive the delivery of products and software solutions
· Focus on hands on development of your team. Mentor, coach and grow highly talented engineers. Train engineers on best practices and drive operational excellence

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science or related field, or related work experience
· Very strong experience in relevant hands-on systems engineering and administrative experience in networking, storage systems, and operating systems
· Strong practical experience as a Systems Engineering and Operations leader – several years of experience managing system of software development teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated technical leadership
· Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to production
· Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
· Experience with the deployment and usage of monitoring systems
· Deep experience working with Linux, preferably in a large scale, distributed environment and an understanding of networking technology and how servers and networks inter-relate
· Forecasting and capacity planning systems
· Experience delivering IT services to enterprise customers
· Experience with Agile methodologies is an advantage
· Ability to credibly coordinate between technical teams, peers and business stakeholders
· Ability to quickly learn and adopt new technologies
· Experience managing on-call support coverage, escalation and critical issue management
· Experience in contributing to the definition and implementation of automation opportunities within an operations environment
· Experience in root cause analysis and error correction, identifying changes to procedures and systems to implement long term fixes and avoid repeating issues
