This is a fascinating, challenging role at the heart of the NCA’s Organisational Service and Sustainability function which is instrumental in delivering support services across our sites and ensuring we work towards achieving a set of ambitious sustainability targets.
The Sustainability Senior Officer will focus on improving sustainability performance, including achieving GGC targets of the NCA.
You will be responsible for the delivery of key sustainability priorities including achievement of the Greening Government Commitments, energy management & carbon reduction on the road to net zero, waste management, water efficiency and sustainable travel across the estate.
You will be responsible for providing technical advice regarding energy and water management best practice and you will use data and tools to monitor and deliver targeted interventions to improve performance. You will manage energy and water utility contracts to ensure they are operating efficiently.
You will be working alongside Facilities Management partners, contractors, commercial colleagues and other key stakeholders to deliver strategies and plans to improve environmental performance. The team are responsible for NCA environmental performance, providing advice, setting technical standards, collating and analysing data, submitting bids for investment and delivering programmes of work to reduce energy, water, waste and improving biodiversity across the NCA estate.

Deliver key sustainability priorities including ensuring we meet NCAs GGC targets for carbon reduction, waste management, water efficiency and sustainable travel. Responsibilities are detailed below:
• Provide technical advice on energy, carbon, water and waste management to relevant stakeholders across the NCA estate.
• Overseeing delivery of a range of carbon, water and waste reduction projects, working with relevant stakeholders including Facilities Management providers, Project Delivery and Commercial colleagues and external contractors to ensure successful delivery.
• Influencing Facilities Management and Contractors to deliver improved environmental performance.
• Actively engage stakeholders in all parts of the NCA, to support delivery of carbon, water, waste and travel reduction targets.
• Represent the NCA as required at cross-Whitehall and other sustainability environments.
• Help develop funding bids relating to energy, waste and water projects.
• Deliver internal reports from the data supplier to show progress towards delivering Greening Government Commitments (GGC) across the NCA estate: forecasts for departmental and cross-Government sustainability reporting, also trend analysis and identification of risk.
• Help to ensure compliance with statutory environmental requirements
• Support Commercial to let suitable utility contracts and help deliver utility based savings in particular associated with bill verification, water deregulation and opportunities in the electricity market including, but not limited to, demand side response.
• Provide information and where required briefing for Ministers’ Cases, PQs, FOIs and TOs, reports as required.
In some roles, you will have responsibility for managing a team and will maintain a key role in coaching and developing the wider team, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to deliver corporate outcomes.
