Role Summary
The Sustainability Research Materials Scientist is responsible for developing new packaging materials and technologies at scale for The Coca-Cola Company. The role will include leveraging external technology from other markets, guiding current and new suppliers, and implementing new-to-the-world concepts in a scalable fashion. Additionally, the candidate will work closely with the Technology Center and external vendors to bring concepts through functional prototype stage to validated package, and with local teams to enable implementation within an Operating Unit.
This position reports to the Global Director of Sustainability R&D and will work with extended team members from the Global Engineering organization.
What You’ll Do for Us
Lead & perform research activities to conceive, demonstrate and establish breakthrough sustainable packaging materials and technologies for a next generation beverage portfolio to enable a winning consumer experience.
Drive business growth by working in cross-functional global / regional development teams to identify innovative and differentiated packaging material and functional technologies.
Make recommendations to Company management (e.g., senior technical management) about emerging business opportunities, technology capabilities or scientific breakthroughs to offer solutions to technical problems and/or influence the Company's strategy.
Work with internal or external partner(s), managing confidentiality, licensing or development agreements, to secure and develop (novel) experimental methods, processes, or equipment in order to refine technology concepts, develop prototypes and operating parameters, and produce cost estimates.
What You’ll Need
Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science or the equivalent
8-10 years of industry experience with at least 5 years of relevant/direct industry related work experience from a materials supplier, chemical company or upstream refining or processing company. Experience in the value chain of CPG and packaging materials is preferred.
Must have expert knowledge of materials science and technologies for sustainable consumer goods packaging, including plastics used in rigid and flexible packaging.
Must have experience in and a track record of developing and commercializing significant new products and technologies to drive business growth. Please identify an example of work you’ve commercialized in your cover letter.
