THE TEAM

The Sustainability Assistant at ASOS sits within the Sustainability team as part of Responsible Materials in the Responsible Sourcing function. Working in the Sustainability Team is all about driving the ‘Fashion with Integrity’ element of the ASOS business strategy; from engaging the commercial teams on sustainable materials and processes, to supporting suppliers on their sustainability journey and engaging our customers through marketing and communication. You will support the sustainability team across product and supply chain sustainability and circularity. 

Working closely with all the Commercial teams, ASOS own brands and suppliers, our mission is to ‘change our buying habits so our customers don’t have to’.

What you’ll be doing…

  • Support business targets for ‘Be more Circular’ ambition across sustainable materials and production processes through improving internal processes such as training, product sustainability guides and collaborating with internal teams 

  • Against business targets, manage the tracking and reporting of sustainable fibre uptake such as Cotton, Polyester and Viscose

  • Support the continual improvement of product sustainability attributions on site working closely with IT, commercial and marketing teams.

  • Update ASOS training tools and programs to ensure these engaging and efficient for internal and external use such as sustainable product training

  • Work closely with commercial and marketing teams to ensure key sustainability messages are surfaced to the customer; developed appropriate copy, guidance and support to the internal teams

  • Creating guides for suppliers throughout the supply chain to support reduction in their environmental footprint working closely with the ASOS Fabric, Sourcing, Technical and Compliance teams.

  • Support Established Product Partner & Circularity Partner to integrate and improve material sustainability through both product and Circularity workstreams. 

  • Contribute alongside the Sustainability & Fabric Teams to the implementation of new fabric processes and innovations with commercial teams and suppliers

  •  Support a rigorous sustainability onboarding process for new production regions working alongside ASOS Sourcing Team

  • Support on external reporting needs where needed for ASOS Plc website, annual Report, and other reporting as required

  • Support on engagement with external stakeholders and NGOs e.g. Textile Exchange, BCI and Canopy

  • Regularly collect and present market intel with competitor’s activities and sustainability progress in a Retail facing manner to educate and fully engage.  

  • Support the sustainability team on internal engagement such as preparing updates and presentations for senior leadership

  • Work alongside internal teams such as Fabric sourcing, Sourcing, 3rd Party branded engagement, Ethical Trade, Technical, Commercial, Corporate Responsibility to support FWI KPIS across social and environmental topics

  • Is deeply passionate about sustainable fashion and can demonstrate successes in this area

  • Employs a flexible approach to challenging strategies and situations

  • Has held previous a sustainability role ideally within a fashion retailer or sustainability consultancy or NGO.

  • Has experience in sustainability including materials, processes and supplier engagement

  • Can support ambitious KPI’s analysing data to influence target and strategy setting

  • Has excellent communication and presentation skills confident to present data clearly & succinctly to a variety of retail audiences.

  • Can travel for work

  • Is building a strong external sustainability network ideally within fashion retail, keeping abreast of industry developments

  • Can work as part of a team as well as work on your own and make decisions.

  • Has some project management experience.
