Job Purpose and Impact
The Sustainability and External Affairs Leader – Cargill BioIndustrial Group will lead the development and execution of strategic sustainability initiatives with businesses, customers and other external stakeholders that drive progress in key environmental and social impact areas and deliver value to our customers and commercial teams. This position also coordinates advocacy for CBI’s policy agenda to protect product lines and open new markets in collaboration with the Government Relations function and key trade associations. In this role, you will build partnerships with customers and suppliers across value chains, engage external organizations to advance sustainability frameworks and engage, educate and influence internal and external stakeholders and policymakers to execute on our purpose to nourish the world in a safe, responsible and sustainable way.
Key Accountabilities
- Form sustainability strategy and tactics for the Cargill BioIndustrial Group
- Establish advocacy agendas for business segments and collaborate with Government Relations tags to activate policies that promote product use and prevent unfavorable regulation.
- Contribute to develop supply chain policies, strategies and action plans in an integrated operating company approach that builds sustainability value to the Group’s products and offerings.
- Interact with customers directly and indirectly to ascertain their sustainability related needs and partner with commercial teams in developing and delivering solutions to those needs to ultimately drive business growth.
- Collaborate across Cargill businesses that supply the Group with bio-based feedstocks to present a unified set of sustainability value attributes to customers.
- Identify and work with external partners like nongovernmental organizations, foundations, universities and trade associations to enhance the Group’s thought leadership presence and influence where needed.
- Develop, maintain and apply industry leading expertise in sustainability as it applies to the relevant supply chains, sustainability topic area or geographies, with particular emphasis in calculation of product impacts through life cycle assessments (LCA).
- Represent the company in external senior level stakeholder forums and media in matters related to sustainability and policy advocacy.

- Provide expert thought leadership in your field and work with limited direction, using additional research and interpretation to identify issues or problems. You may provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Technical knowledge in environmental, economic and social benefits of sustainable development
- Experience in identifying customer needs and developing solutions
- Minimum of six years of related work experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in corporate strategy and program execution, preferably in renewable, bio-based or agribusiness industry sectors
- Demonstrated experience in corporate policy and advocacy
- Master’s degree
- Experience with sustainability certification programs
- Demonstrated experience in sustainable supply chain program development and execution
