Advanced Systems Group (ASG) is a newly formed stand-alone division of Brunswick, the world’s largest recreational marine business.  We are seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to join our team.  The Supplier Quality Engineer role is a highly visible role within ASG, responsible for developing and executing a supplier quality program.  This position will unlock value for ASG (Advanced Systems Group) by increasing integration with our supplier base, reducing defect rates, conducting an audit program, and leading continuous improvement across the supply chain.  This role would report into the Operations, Procurement and Supply Chain (OP&S) Organization for ASG and be integral in driving a supplier performance system which creates a competitive advantage through the strength of our supply base.

Key Responsibilities:

Define, communicate, and execute supplier quality program within the Advanced Systems Group.  The successful candidate will: 

  • Establish a supplier qualification process and a standardize set of requirements for ASG (Advanced Systems Group) which will support the delivery of high-quality materials
  • Closely partner with distribution and production teams and other Brunswick sister companies to identify and implement best practices for supplier quality management across the division
  • Ideal candidates aspire to apply quality strategies established from academics and experience. Develop innovative future state quality processes and controls resulting in superior internal and external customer satisfaction/experience.
  • Deploy data analysis tools and standardized continuous improvement methodologies like Lean Six Sigma to identify improvement opportunities both in supplier organizations and across the Brunswick supply chain (e.g., process changes, part design, etc.)
  • Establish clear metrics and process for audits, performance measurement and improvements
  • Coordinate with suppliers and stakeholders to implement risk mitigation and process improvement initiatives
  • Support new part and product approval processes using advanced quality planning
  • Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions to resolve operation critical problems
  • Develop data collection and reporting methods leading to improved process capability, efficiencies, performance, and controls
  • Participate in or lead PFMEA resulting in reduced risks and improved control methods
  • Analyze product warranty data to improve internal processes, design, and supplier product
  • Work in cross-functional teams with ability to successfully assign and complete tasks
  • Identify and communicate issues and non-conformance trends in manufacturing or design
  • Coach and mentor others in the use of quality tools and systems
  • Identify critical to quality and safety part and process characteristics

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related work experience in a relevant field (Relevant industry experience along with certifications may be considered in place of degree)
  • Formal Six Sigma Training; ASQ certifications desired: CQE, CSSBB
  • 3 years Statistical Process Control (SPC) & process data collection implementation and administration
  • 3 years Marine, Automotive or comparable regulated industry experience desired
  • Must be well versed in quality methodologies with a practical approach to application
  • Product compliance/liability training and leadership experience
  • Prior marine experience and/or personal knowledge of boat operation and systems desirable
  • Training of NMMA and ABYC regulations desired
  • APQP including PPAP, QFD, FMEA, and control planning
  • Value stream mapping, development of future state processes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrate experience performing mathematical and basic statistical calculations and analysis including graphical reporting
  • Ability to manage medium to large scale projects
  • Experience developing process procedures and work instructions
  • Demonstrate knowledge in project management using associated tools
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical matter in mathematical or diagram form
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, the ability to effectively communicate cross-functionally
  • Understanding of customers’ quality/reliability requirements and product expectations
  • Experience with gel coat, fiberglass, and assembly desired

Business Travel Expectations

  • This position will require domestic and international travel by auto or airplane to supplier locations and manufacturing locations up to 40-50%.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  All safety and preventive gear, measures and processes should be adhered at all times.
