Job Description

This position is responsible for ensuring that the products purchased and produced by Ithaca plant of the Morse division meet the established quality standards set both by BorgWarner as well as its customers. They will supervise, support and actively engage with members of the Quality team. Supervision may include a team of engineer(s), technician(s), and hourly employee(s). They will also be one of the plants primary support contacts for the customer and maintain customer systems. They will support the manager in setting department strategies/goals and delivering results that align to those of the plant.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive continuous improvement both for the department and the plant through measurement, analysis and action planning associated with Key Performance Indicators (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery).
  • Develop annual performance and development objectives with team members that align with plant/department goals and perform performance evaluations.
  • Assist with management of quality reporting systems and score cards.
  • Support temporary and permanent change management systems both within the plant and the supply base.
  • Lead and coach multi-functional plant and supplier problem solving activities (i.e. 8D, A3, 5 Why, etc.) to achieve plant goals.
  • Interact daily with customers and/or suppliers on pending audits, complaints, PPAP submissions, etc.
  • Maintain customer and/or supplier systems (i.e. websites).
  • Lead team to manage resourcing across multiple customers and suppliers as required.
  • Ensure internal quality system adheres to appropriate standards as deemed necessary by customers and by management (i.e. IATF\TS16949, ISO14001, CQI-9, CQI-14, etc.).
  • Lead customer and third party audits of quality systems.
  • Technical lead on AIAG APQP process and drives suppliers and internal accountability to this process.
  • Provide technical expertise for development of new and existing suppliers. 
  • Supply technical support for other BorgWarner Morse System facilities and Supplier Certification Surveys to assure compliance to engineering and quality specifications.
  • Visits customers and suppliers to stay abreast of their changing quality requirements.
  • Travel up to 10% within the US and international.

Safety and Health – Responsible for completing required safety training, reporting and correcting any unsafe practices as appropriate, completing work activities in a safe manner, and complying with safety and health requirements for respective position.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 5-7 years of engineering experience in an automotive environment.
    • 3+ years of quality experience  preferred.
    • 3+ years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Advanced problem solving skills including leading and coaching of teams on process.
  • Lean and/or Toyota Production System experience.
  • In depth understanding of AIAG APQP process and PPAP requirements.
  • Technical knowledge in SPC (or other statistical techniques) and the ability to practically apply in a variety of production environments.
  • Working understanding of IATF/TS16949.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes including metal stamping, heat treating, finishing and assembly.
  • Can effectively communicate to a culturally diverse customer and supply base.
  • Ability to effectively lead, empower and develop teams to implement organizational strategy and achieve organizational goals
