Role Summary
The Supervisor Accounts Payable oversees the execution of the Accounts Payable function and supervises the daily operations of the team of Accounts Specialists that support Accounts Payable for Alaska Air Group (AAG). As a people leader, the Supervisor Accounts Payable leads and establishes priorities for the team to ensure timely payments of vendor invoices.
Key Duties
Determines roles, responsibilities and hiring of Accounts Payable Accounting Specialists (COPs) union employees.
Supervises, trains, develops, and contributes subject matter expertise to ensure procedures compliance and that all employees are performing to expectations.
Plans work, ensures timely payments of vendor invoices and expense reports, including reallocation of employee workloads as appropriate.
Prepares accounts payable registers and related reports in a timely manner (daily for ACH (Automated Clearing House), Wire, and VCA (Virtual Card) payments; weekly for Checks).
Ensures tax identification numbers or social security numbers have been collected from all vendors for preparation and submission of 1099s.
Ensures proper maintenance, filing, and storage of records in case of audits.
Contributes to the development of processes and procedures.
Prepares journal entries and reconciles accounts payable subledger to general ledger.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
3 years of Accounts Payable experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration or related area, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to effectively interface with all levels in the organization.
Demonstrates and maintains advanced knowledge of company policies.
Ability to initiate and facilitate on-going changes to automate and enhance department procedures.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements, Payment Card Industry (PCI) data security standards, and/or federal and state tax and labor reporting requirements, depending on area of support.
Airline experience.
PeopleSoft experience.
