Role Specific Details

This position is for the Supervisor Cargo and Fuel Accounting.

Role Summary

The Supervisor Cargo and Fuel Accounting oversees the execution of the cargo and fuel accounting functions and supervises the daily operations of the team of Accounts Specialists. As a people leader, the Supervisor Cargo and Fuel Accounting leads and establishes priorities for the team to record freight and mail revenue in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, as well as executing timely and accurate payments to fuel vendors.

Key Duties

  • Determines roles, responsibilities and hiring of Cargo and Fuel Accounting Specialists (COPs) union employees.

  • Supervises, trains, develops, and contributes subject matter expertise to ensure procedures compliance and that all employees are performing to expectations.

  • Ensures proper maintenance, filing, and storage of records.

  • Contributes to the development of processes and procedures.

  • Prepares and reviews journal entries and reconciles general ledger accounts associated with cargo and fuel transactions.

  • Compile financial data to ensure the proper accounting treatment of both cargo revenue and revenue-related transactions, in a compliant, complete, accurate, and timely manner.

  • Make decisions in support of fuel vendor contracts, FBO contracts, and Consortiums in regard to best location pricing, as well as the most advantageous tax treatment.

  • Evaluate opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency of team duties.

  • Reviews monthly financial performance with department leadership to identify key variances, trends, and potential issues that may impact the financial performance or accuracy of cargo revenue.

  • Shape culture of team through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 3 years of Accounting experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree, with a focus in accounting or related area, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must be able to effectively interface with all levels in the organization.

  • Demonstrates and maintains advanced knowledge of company policies.

  • Ability to initiate and facilitate on-going changes to automate and enhance department procedures.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.

  • Direct supervisory experience with a demonstrated ability to build positive and constructive relationships with direct reports.

  • Airline experience.

  • PeopleSoft experience.
