Position Summary:

Mercury Marine is looking for a Structural Test Engineer, with an emphasis on Bolted Joint testing, to be a part of the NVH & Structures team.  This position will support test and development activities required to deliver world class durability for new product development programs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interface with a cross functional team (Engineering / Quality / Procurement / Manufacturing) to develop and execute test plans for Bolted Joint testing
  • Maintain test lab schedules and prioritize resources to support both new Product Development activities and Current Product / Manufacturing requests
  • Document test results in a clear and concise manner and provide detailed recommendations to customer
  • Actively support design engineering to incorporate best practices early in the design phase
  • Support design of basic test fixtures and sample preparation
  • Support transducer calibration and test equipment preventative maintenance/repair needs for the Bolted Joint lab
  • Lead and actively participate in workplace safety and process improvement initiatives

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelors of science degree in an engineering field
  • 3+ years of experience in bolted joint design and/or testing.  Candidates with relevant manufacturing experience will also be considered.
  • Proficiency with bolted joint test methods and equipment (torque /angle and ultrasonics), including basic data acquisition systems
  • Understanding of bolted joint behavior, fastener coatings, assembly tooling, and basic material properties
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to work among cross-functional teams
  • Experience with servo-hydraulic test systems is a plus
  • Working knowledge of engines and marine propulsion systems
  • Familiarity with the use and operation of marine vessels is also a plus
