Job Description

An excellent opportunity for an intermediate Engineer to join as established Structures team based in the Cardiff Office. You Provide general Highways Structures Asset Management support for various projects, coordinate with senior staff and leading technicians and junior staff in coordination of service deliverables. You will set up project delivery programmes and undertake Project Management support duties. Out team are involved in the design of various structures such as bridges, retaining walls, culverts and the like and providing detailed drawings as necessary.

Job Description:

What you’ll be doing:

  • Undertaking feasibility studies including preparing reports, cost estimates, investigating problems and identifying options
  • Taking a participant or lead role in the design, inspection or assessment of major civil engineering structures and bridges
  • Designing projects in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridgeworks and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works
  • Ability to set and work to personal deadlines and targets to meet the requirements of programmes of work, to meet clients’ needs and to respond to targets set by others
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing at a general and technical level
  • Ensuring compliance of the team’s work with a high regard to Health and Safety and the application of the CDM Regulations and other legislation
  • Abide by the objectives and targets of both the section and the department and follow procedures and practices utilized in all aspects of the work, including computerized and manual systems and the maintenance of relevant records

What we’re looking for:

  • A Bachelors or master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related subject accredited by the Engineering Council. Ideally you will be working toward achieving Chartered Member status of the or have recently achieved membership status.
  • A minimum of 2 year minimum ideally 5 years post-graduation experience in the design of all aspects of highways and civil engineering design and construction
  • A knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation, standards, and procedures. A working knowledge of standard highway and civil engineering specifications, conditions of contract and methods of measurement
  • Working knowledge of the relevant legislation and guidelines including the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, British and European Standards, Eurocodes, and Codes of Practice
  • Full UK Driving License
