Project Overview

Bechtel is on the Northrop Grumman Corp. team preparing to deliver the U.S. Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) system of inter-continental ballistic missiles and launch infrastructure. GBSD is a vital U.S. Air Force program designed to modernize the nation’s aging force of inter-continental ballistic missiles, which make up the ground element of the nuclear deterrent. As part of the Northrop Grumman GBSD nationwide team, Bechtel will provide launch system design, construction, and integration.

 

A major contractor for the United States and allied governments, Bechtel has handled such efforts as chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile-defense, infrastructure, base operations, procurement and project management, and restoration and recovery spanning half a century. Responsibilities

This role will support design development structural engineering designs for the GBSD program project by preparing studies, drawings, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. 

Work with other structural designers/engineers and technical disciplines in a team environment.

Originate/check structural steel design drawings.

Originate/check structural concrete forming and reinforcing design drawings.

Participate in project design/model reviews.

Participate in constructability reviews.

Assist with walkdowns of existing facilities.

Perform formal drawings. Review vendor information from subcontractors and integrate it into the design solution.

Execute to schedule requirement while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.

Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in executing work as an integrated team. 

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

Level 1: BS degree in a related field with 6 years of related design experience or AA/AS degree with 11 years of related design experience. In lieu of a degree, 15 years of related design experience.

Level 2: BS degree in a related field with 9 years of related design experience or AA/AS degree with 15 years of related design experience. In lieu of a degree, 19 years of related design experience.

Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, drawings for structural systems and equipment on nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building structural systems.

Must be United States Citizen.

Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Advance experience in the use of Revit to create structural designs.

Work experience should emphasize Structural design of heavy industrial type facilities.

Must be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Familiar with the provisions of ASTM, ACI, ASTM, and WBDG UFC codes. Knowledge of construction materials and construction details and techniques.

Familiar with the methods of procurement and control of bulk materials.

Knowledge of technical responsibilities of other disciplines associated with Facilities Design.

Ability to independently execute the detailed design drawings of Civil Site systems of moderate complexity.

Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications.

 

Preferred Qualifications

AA in civil engineering or engineering technology.

Knowledge in use of Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.

Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000.

Experience utilizing Siemens NX, Tekla, or similar solids modeling programs

Engineering automation experience quantifying design commodities

Construction field experience.

Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.

Six Sigma Yellow Belt or higher or working knowledge of other process improvement programs.
