We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our team as Strategy and Finance Manager working together with colleagues to define, manage and achieve divisional business targets. 

Role Purpose

The trading and sales forces attend to customers that include the world's central banks, international and local corporations, institutional investors, financial institutions and other market participants. 

The GB Strategy & Analytics team sits within the GB Chief of Staff function and seeks to drive the successful delivery of strategic business outcomes within agreed investment boundaries through efficient and effective project & analytics delivery. 

The Strategy and Finance Manager is responsible for deploying the Programme Management framework and other Business Transformation Frameworks within their programme and instilling good financial disciplines within their programme and the HSBC Group. The role holder will report to the Chief of Staff, Global Banking ASP. 

Key outcomes and goals will be:

  • Becoming the partner and first point of contact to advise business on shape, size and approach of GB strategy programme in the initial stages of mobilisation and execution capability
  • Delivering models, analytics and actionable insights to the business stakeholders and workstream participants involved in delivering the GB strategy
  • Building credibility through the effective delivery of in-flight projects and future assignments to ensure a more widespread use of the team as primary execution owners
  • Bringing transparency on execution progress to all stakeholders, empowering informed and correct decisions 
  • Being proactive identification & management of issues as they arise & de-risk as required
  • Ensuring regular and meaningful communications to relevant stakeholders 
  • Working closely with the Programme Manager and Global Banking team to ensure alignment of their programme with the wider change portfolio and the Global Banking Strategy.

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare monthly MI reporting on the cost and associated benefits of the Transformation Programme
  • Work with Businesses and Functions to understand cost / saves performance against expected targets
  • Work with business to provide SME knowledge of issues such as policy points in respect of the recognition of CTA spend and associated cost saves
  • Ensure that programme spend and saves are correctly included in the Group’s Annual Operating Plans and monthly forecasts
  • Understand the submission of numbers and movements / rationale between submissions 
  • Deliver timely, accurate and insightful analysis based on interpretation of results on business forecasts and strategic plans
  • Define points to track, review and control programme/project progress and performance in the process ensuring the project’s benefits are delivered on time, within budget; anticipating potential risks and issues, assisting with putting mitigating actions into place to prevent delivery stalling and escalating as appropriate 
  • Manage Risks and Issues through appropriate tracking and involving key members of the programme/project team as appropriate
  • Assist with the development of a well-defined programme/project plan, identifying the key milestones and assist in the assigning of role/task responsibilities
  • Generate strong and realistic business cases using business knowledge and ability to question and challenge etc. 
  • Foster global coordination and communication with the PMO Lead and with the leadership of the other streams
  • Be responsible for providing proactive insightful financial and other analysis and key performance metrics to drive positive project performance and outcome.
  • Provide timely and accurate status reporting to key stakeholders and programme sponsors.
  • Ensure the programme is compliant with HSBC business standards (e.g. BTF: Business Transformation Framework).
 

Qualifications

 

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Understand and translate Group Strategy into the business use of analytics and modelling to implement our strategy 
  • Able to drive delivery by using robust financial data and insights to challenge and support business decision making 
  • Able to build effective senior stakeholder relationships. Confidence to constructively challenge the agenda in order to help the business and technical teams deliver maximum value for each $ invested.
  • Outstanding track record for successful delivery of significant and complex change programmes
  • Agile development aware and strong ability to translate business needs into analytical requirements
  • Detail and demonstrable knowledge of end-to-end Programme life cycle: business analysis, business and technical process change, test management, implementation and production transition.
  • Ability of managing significant Programme budgets to quality, time and scope. 
  • Strong strategic planning and execution skills, including business case development and benefits realisation.
  • Very strong analytical and facilitation skills to ensure business needs and effective solutions can be quickly and clearly defined.
  • Strong influencing skills and commercial awareness.
  • Proven team building and leadership capabilities operating within a matrix organisation.
  • Effective management of dependencies and interactions across associated and complimentary projects.
  • Outstanding written/verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Good knowledge of Financial Services industry and offerings.
