As a member of the Investment Strategic Projects Team you could work on a variety of different projects which could include the following:

• Leading the development of priority investment projects requiring strategic thinking, defining the scope of the work, and the policy underpinning the work.

• Analysis and evidence gathering, working with Specialists to build the strategic case.

• Collaborating and working closely with investment delivery teams across DIT including in the UK regions, overseas, and sector specialists to help deliver project aims and objectives.

• Communicating and engaging a range of important stakeholders, providing advice to senior leaders and Ministers, building relationships across Whitehall Departments involved in investment, and ensuring strategic projects are understood and explained to achieve successful outcomes.

• Problem solving with the ability to think practically and overcome barriers to delivering project aims.

Hybrid Working

The role will be based in either Darlington or London. You will be asked to express a location preference during the application process.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.

DIT will cover travel costs/expenses to any office which is not your usual office location in line with departmental expenses policy. DIT will not cover commuting costs to your agreed office location.

Appointments will be made to candidates in merit order based on location preferences.

Responsibilities

Essential Criteria

• You will have previous experience of delivering projects from outline concept to practical implementation against tight deadlines.

• You will need to be flexible and adapt to priority projects, navigating ambiguity and providing clarity.

• You will have previous experience of building relationships and managing stakeholders to deliver project aims.

• You will have the ability to analyse evidence to inform decision making. In return, we will offer you exposure to a range of challenging strategic projects at the heart of the Government’s international investment agenda.

• Leadership and management experience to help build the strategic projects team as it expands.

• It is essential that the successful candidate has a good experience of delivering projects from concept to implementation and solving problems to overcome barriers to progress.

• You will have achieved this by building effective working relationships with stakeholders, sourcing and analysing evidence, and communicating clearly to inform decision making.

• You will have a proactive approach to leading your project work strand and collaborative approach as a valued team member contributing to wider goals.

• You will be skilled at developing productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders and bringing people together to achieve the project’s aims.

• There may be opportunities to line manage colleagues so an ability to engage, motivate and coach others as well as acting as a role model, to inspire and empower others.
