Job Description

Conduct the safe operation of all plant centralized utility systems including high and low pressure boilers, turbine generator set, natural gas high pressure compressors, centrifugal refrigeration chillers, cooling towers, centrifugal air compressors, fire systems, and HVAC systems.

  • Develop and implement proactive preventative maintenance activities on system related equipment.
  • Coordinate and influence equipment maintenance contractors to adhere to local governmental regulations and industrial standards.
  • Audit, measure and report against specific utility equipment within designed efficiencies.
  • Develop, coordinate and provide written documentation in the operation of all utility equipment within the designed parameters.
  • Work with a proactive effort to ensure the site complies with all related local, state and federal regulations and continuously improve against corporate objectives
  • Utilize sound analytical practices for leading indicators to maintain an efficient utility system network providing customers with reliable services. These indices include written preventative notifications and escalations.
  • Conduct evaluation of Fire Safety System on a periodic basis to ensure equipment is reliable.
  • Responsible for coordinating preventative maintenance on designated systems.
  • Audit. Measure and report boiler chemical adherence to standards.
  • This position is responsible for providing technical utility expertise and act as a resource to all site functional departments.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Develop, communicate and implement SAFETY AND SECURITY activities to site associates to meet standards of performance in accordance with the Mars, Incorporated Environmental Policy, SAFETY AND SECURITY Management System, and Corporate Safety and Security Standards, Mars Operating System and Asset Conservation Manual Provide SAFETY AND SECURITY technical support and guidance to ensure projects and site concerns are properly addressed as appropriate Schedule and direct corporate consulting resources, insurance and regulatory inspections to ensure SAFETY AND SECURITY, sustainability and Asset conservation risks are managed and communicated effectively with all site functional departments as required Collaborates, interacts and communicates safety initiatives with all site stake holders, functional departments and associates Oversees all SAFETY AND SECURITY regulatory compliance audits/inspection and associated record keeping Develops, evaluates, records and implements safety training programs required by corporate and government. This includes continuous monitoring of program effectiveness and the ability to make changes to improve training. Acts as technical resource, advisor and council to site leadership team and managers on SAFETY AND SECURITY matters.  Specifically has a grasp of industry (CFR 29 part 1900 to 1910) and construction regulations (CFR 29 part 1926) as required. Manages, maintains and improves safety standard work instructions, process and manuals.  Review these documents on annual basis for completeness of material and compliance.  These include but are not limited to Safety Audits, Safety Inspections, Incentives and Rewards Program, Confined Space Program, Control of Hazardous Energies, Hot Work, Emergency Evacuation, Hazardous Communications, etc.  The safety technician will assure the implementation of Mars SAFETY AND SECURITY Standards and guidelines. Communicates regularly with other Mars site safety resources and transfers best practice of safety, security and environmental procedures Leads Incident Investigation Team and identifies the root cause of incident and recommends solutions to reduce or eliminate future occurrences.  This requires dealing with sensitive issues and potential disciplinary actions of associate involved in the investigation.  Analyze incident trends and insures follow up on incidents. Responsible for applying ergonomic principles to plant task and recommends improvements with engineering controls or administrative controls.  Understands biomechanics and human interaction/impact with machinery, work stations, etc.  Examines jobs/tasks and determines the best method of accomplishing work to prevent injury. Manage the execution and continued performance of the project review process Maintains a high level of SAFETY AND SECURITY awareness through various means of communications, proactive safety campaigns/incentive programs, and associate involvement, including demonstrable skills assessment, new hire and contractor orientations and continuous learning.
