BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for a “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Sr. Staff Engineer, Power Electronics Electrical Design at our Indiana Technical Center (ITC) in Noblesville, Indiana

In this role, and under direct supervision of the Senior Engineering Manager, Power Electronics the Sr. Staff Engineer, Power Electronics Electrical Design will be primarily responsible for performing the electrical circuit design, component selection, circuit analysis and testing of BorgWarner power electronics products.  The Sr. Staff Engineer, Power Electronics Electrical Design will ensure BorgWarner’s power electronics products are properly designed and validated to meet customer requirements. Will train and mentor less experienced engineers and new hires.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Perform the electrical design, simulation and analysis of electronic controller circuits used in power electronics devices and systems to meet technical product requirements
  • Perform the electrical design, simulation and analysis of power electronics circuits and systems to meet technical product requirements
  • Perform the electrical debug, test, characterization, and validation of power electronics designs
  • Specify, identify, select, and test of key, critical electrical components
  • Lead the design and layout of circuit boards, substrates, & electrical interconnects/bus structures  
  • Develop an optimized electrical, mechanical, and thermal solution utilizing balanced requirements to meet schedule, technical and cost constraints
  • Work with the BorgWarner systems engineers and program team to ensure the proper allocation of requirements and to perform the verification of those requirements allocated to the electrical competency
  • Support BorgWarner product development team with technical design analysis, trade off studies, FMEAs, design reviews and customer presentations
  • Proficient in the vehicle system components and functions that interface to the power electronics subsystem and can help mentor other engineers on such aspects
  • Work with Systems Engineering and Application Engineering to investigate vehicle systems issues
  • Work with other engineering competencies, suppliers, and partners to ensure proper development, execution and verification of power electronics products
  • Focal point for electrical design technical discussions with cross-competency team, management and customers using highly effective communication and facilitation skills and techniques
  • Determines best techniques/procedure and applies for analysis, design, or experimental procedures
  • Documents and shares best-practices
  • Mentors the less experienced; role model for BW Beliefs
  • Willingness/ability to travel 10% both domestically and internationally, if needed

Qualifications & Experience:

  • BS Electrical Engineering required
  • MS Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience required in some combination of the following areas:
    • Automotive electronics product development
    • Power Electronics circuits design, specifically motor drive inverters
    • Automotive Systems Engineering
    • Modeling, simulating, and testing of Electronic controllers used in automotive and power electronics applications
  • Automotive electrical system experience preferred
  • Design and test of automotive, consumer, and/or industrial EMC compliant power electronics systems
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills (Shainin or Six Sigma training a plus)
  • Experience in designing, integrating, and testing of DC to AC inverter motor drives and controls.
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety (ISO 26262) and ASIL level requirements.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong product engineering experience and working knowledge of manufacturing processes and capabilities.
  • Engineering experience in a manufacturing industry.
  • Works under limited supervision.
  • Strong knowledge base of engineering theories related to designated engineering function and applies those theories to a variety of complex tasks and situations.
  • Ability to solve problems efficiently and effectively.
