Job Description

This role is charged with development of new & advanced packaging structures and systems. The position is part of  Colgate’s Global Packaging Innovation & Technology group.

 

This role is heavily focused on creating possibilities of packaging with a strong emphasis on Consumer/Human Experience. Keys to success are leveraging existing and emerging consumer packaging trends, technologies, and methodologies. 

 

The role is cross-functional in nature, working very closely with Marketing, Product Development, Design, Supply Chain and peers throughout Colgate’s Packaging team. The candidate would also be required to cultivate external partnerships with new and existing packaging suppliers to deliver new packaging. 

 

 

Core Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the development of new & advanced packaging concepts 
  • Scout externally sourced Packaging innovations with a keen eye on start ups & fledgling companies. 
  • Partner very closely with Marketing and Consumer Insights to identify opportunities to explore new Packaging concepts. 
  • Contribute meaningfully in the Design stage of New Product Development, focusing primarily on Consumer needs
  • Understand rapid prototyping to drive ‘test-and-learn’,  iterative development and be comfortable with learning from failure. 
  • Have a solid understanding of the technical elements of Packaging, but not be bound by the current state of the industry. 
  • Independently and proactively manage timelines to ensure the fastest possible project timing. Accountable to deliver against initiatives. 
  • Budget management to deliver project goals and operate within project budgets

Competencies: 
 

  • Skilled in Package engineering and/or package development across a broad range of materials and processes
  • Able to connect technology possibilities with consumer insights in a way to illuminate new package design opportunities 
  • Able to improvise and convert a new package design idea into a workable prototype which allows potential internal customers to understand and evaluate the value of the innovation 
  • Builds and leverages external partnerships to generate new ideas and quickly identify and develop new packaging solutions 
  • Demonstrates and encourages creativity and flexibility by thinking beyond current practices 
     

 

Experience & Education:

 

  • Required: BS in Packaging, Industrial Design, Engineering, or a related field
  • Required: 8 yrs experience in consumer goods, cosmetic, or pharma industry 
  • Preferred: Masters Degree in one of the disciplines above
