Job Description

This role is responsible for delivering primary & secondary packaging for new products and business models such as durables, refill/reuse models, and other approaches.

The ideal candidate will be a flexible collaborator with the ability to work across multiple project types and development stages from opportunity space identification, concepting, prototyping, through to bundle development.
Should be comfortable developing packaging in a human centric fashion incorporating experience/ergonomics, aesthetics, and protection for products which may be sensitive to moisture, oxygen, and flavor-loss. Candidates should have a basic understanding of packaging sustainability concepts and general trade-offs both from a design & end of
life perspective.
This candidate will collaborate within the cross-functional Innovation team/accelerator including design, marketing, R&D, and supply chain while also tapping into Colgate-  Palmolive’s network of global technical subject matter experts in addition to scouting, leveraging, & guiding internal and external packaging development partners.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage the development of new packaging materials & concepts
  • Scout externally sourced Packaging innovation ideas from current and newsuppliers, keeping a keen eye on fledgling companies. Engage and partner with Global Procurement
  • Partner very closely with Marketing and Consumer Insights to identify opportunities to explore new Packaging concepts.
  • Contribute meaningfully in the Design stage of New Product Development, focusing primarily on Consumer needs, then later serve as the primary engineer responsible for solving technical challenges.
  • Recognize the value of ergonomics in Packaging design and in-use experience and keep at the center of development.
  • Understand rapid prototyping to drive fast ‘test-and-learn.’ Embrace iterative development and be comfortable with learning from failure.
  • Have a solid understanding of the technical elements of Packaging, but not be bound by the current state of the industry.
  • Understand the financial components of Packaging and Hill’s Pet Nutrition cost structure to guide development. Generate and present valid Total Delivered Cost information on package/process and other pertinent financial information
  • Overcome hurdles on project direction.
  • Independently and proactively manage timelines to ensure fastest possible project timing. Feel accountability to deliver against initiatives.
  • Identify and provide rationale for funds needed to successfully deliver project goals and operate within project budgets

Experience & Education:

Required:

  • BS in Packaging, Engineering, or a related field
  • 7+yrs experience in consumer goods, cosmetic, or pharmaceutical industry
  • 2+yrs experience in Packaging, with a focus on development

Preferred:

  • Masters Degree in one of the disciplines above
  • Please prepare a portfolio containing non-confidential packaging projects you directly worked on
