BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for a “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Sr. Engineer, Power Electronics Electrical Design at our Indiana Technical Center (ITC) in Noblesville and Kokomo Indiana. The primary location of this position is at the Noblesville Technical Center (NTC).

The Sr. Engineer, Power Electronics Electrical Design will be primarily responsible for performing the electrical circuit design, component selection, circuit analysis and testing of embedded controllers used in BorgWarner power electronics products.  This position will ensure BorgWarner’s power electronics products with embedded analog/digital controllers are properly designed and validated to meet customer requirements.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Perform the electrical design, simulation, and analysis of electronic controller circuits and power electronics circuits used in power electronics products
  • Perform the electrical debug, test, characterization, and validation of power electronics products
  • Specify, identify, select, and test of key, critical electrical components
  • Lead the design and layout of circuit boards, substrates, & electrical interconnects/bus structures 
  • Develop an optimized electrical, mechanical, and thermal solution utilizing balanced requirements to meet schedule, technical and cost constraints
  • Work with the BorgWarner systems engineers and program team to ensure the proper allocation of  requirements and to perform the verification of those requirements allocated to the electrical competency
  • Support BorgWarner product development team with technical design analysis, trade off studies, FMEAs, design reviews and customer presentations
  • Understand the vehicle system components and functions that interface to the power electronics subsystem
  • Work with Systems Engineering and Application Engineering to investigate vehicle systems issues
  • Work with other engineering competencies, suppliers, and partners to ensure proper development, execution and verification of power electronics products
  • Focal point for electrical design technical discussions with cross-competency team, management and customers using highly effective communication and facilitation skills and techniques
  • Determines best techniques/procedure and applies for analysis, design, or experimental procedures
  • Documents and shares best-practices
  • Role model for BW Beliefs

Requirements:

  • BS Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years’ engineering experience required; however, preference will be given to 5+ years’ experience with electrical design in power electronics
  • Automotive electronics product development preferred
  • Modeling, simulating, and testing of automotive Power Electronics
  • Power Electronics, specifically motor drive inverters experience preferred
  • Power Electronics hardware design experience preferred
  • Design and test of automotive, consumer, and/or industrial EMC compliant power electronics systems
  • Knowledge of embedded control software, software development processes and serial communication protocols
  • Familiar with safety standards for automotive industry
  • Knowledge of software requirements definition, change management, and verification techniques.
  • Experience in specifying, mechanizing, integrating, and testing of DC to AC inverter motor drives and controls
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Strong product engineering experience and working knowledge of manufacturing processes and capabilities
  • Engineering experience in a manufacturing industry
  • Strong knowledge base of engineering theories related to designated engineering function and applies those theories to a variety of complex tasks and situations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness/ability to travel 10% both domestically and internationally
