The Enterprise Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) team at The Walt Disney Company serves as a Center of Excellence, leading the development of DEI business strategy, partnering with leaders and teams from across Disney’s businesses and global markets, and providing subject matter expertise on relevant DEI practices.

The Sr. Editor/Copywriter champions the voice and sets the tone for the Company’s corporate external and internal DEI websites and social media platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in DEI and mobile trends and have experience programming digital platforms. They will know what compels audiences to read stories and watch video on mobile and desktop.

This position requires the ability to make decisions under pressure and to change footing quickly and multi-task. The Sr. Editor/Copywriter needs to show immaculate attention to detail, as well as a sense for the mix — balance, diversity and tone — of stories on our platforms. We seek a candidate who is a master of their craft, producing clear, compelling copy for our platforms while also understanding the business objectives behind the work. The candidate must have ability to copy edit with great care and expertise, and experience with digital publishing in a content management system.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead editorial strategy and manage editorial calendar for the Company’s DEI external and internal websites.
  • Work in collaboration with Communications and Marketing, Visual Content, Product & Design teams to lead and execute an editorial plan that is creative, engaging, effective, on-brand and delivered on deadline.
  • Oversee the content curation process and editorial relationships with content partners across Disney businesses.
  • Be a strong advocate for DEI content and programs in terms of cross-promotional opportunities and support from key partners.
  • Establish and evolve cohesive language and a unified voice across products and platforms.
  • Have a broad knowledge of entertainment and current affairs, including politics, race, social justice, international affairs and pop culture.
  • Be comfortable collaborating in a creative but demanding environment under tight deadlines.
  • Work closely with Disney stakeholders and partners across Disney businesses, including DEI staffers, internal creative and production teams, executives, publicity teams, and talent.

Basic Qualifications:

  • ​​​​​Ideal candidate will have a minimum of eight to ten (8 - 10) years of editorial and copywriting experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Excellent presentation skills and a passion for bringing creative ideas to life, must have a passion for both high-level strategy and hands-on writing and editing.
  • Desire and ability to work collaboratively, respectfully, enthusiastically in an environment where creativity, innovative thinking, and an excellent work ethic are highly valued
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects with a high level attention to detail and accuracy, troubleshoot creative challenges and demonstrate strong analytical skills.
  • Quick learner with ability to take direction, work under pressure and operate as part of a team, high sense of responsibility and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated skill in developing and maintaining effective business relationships is necessary; ability to work effectively with people at all levels; kindness strongly preferred.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, preferably in journalism, communications or related field.

Additional Information:

  • Preferred Location – Burbank, CA

This role is considered hybrid, which means the employee will work a portion of their time on-site from a Company designated location and the remainder of their time remotely.
