CVS Health, now one of the top companies in the United States, is seeking a Senior Director of Communications to help position our emerging CVS Kidney Care line of business as a transformative leader in changing kidney disease as we know it.
The Senior Director will advance and scale a robust communications function to support the growth and maturity of this early-stage business. Primary areas of focus will include elevating market awareness and building buy-in for the company’s innovative care model; developing multi-channel strategic communications plans leveraging paid, earned, shared and owned media to position the new brand as a best-in-class solution for patients, providers and payors; delivering thought leadership opportunities and events; and serving as a strategic communications counselor and trusted advisor to the business unit leadership team.
Your ability to partner with colleagues in the CVS Kidney Care business and marketing team, along with allied functions including Government Affairs, Human Resources and Centers of Excellence in Corporate Communications, is critical to success in this position. You will demonstrate outstanding judgment and critical thinking across multiple disciplines to provide strategic guidance to the business, grow and coach your team, and ensure strong execution of communications plans to deliver against business goals and priorities.
You will be a key member of the Enterprise Communications team and will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues focused on multiple lines of business, as well as corporate centers of excellence.
This position can based in Greater Chicago or Greater Boston. The incumbent will work 2-3 days/week in a CVS Health office and 2-3 days/week remotely.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Serve as trusted advisor and thought partner to business unit President and leadership team, driving strategic communications planning to create a new market, support business expansion, and evaluate new ventures into adjacent spaces.
• Protect business and enterprise reputation by anticipating potential issues; building effective issues management plans; and blunting reputational impact of crisis situations.
• Lead team in designing, developing and implementing external and internal communications programs and tactics to advance CVS Kidney Care business priorities and milestones.
• Direct and oversee development of robust thought leadership and partnership strategies to cultivate advocates among health care providers, patients and industry experts.
• Serve as chief company spokesperson. Develop strong relationships with media contacts at key top-tier, trade, industry and clinical media outlets.
• Coach, develop, manage and lead team to effectively support executive leaders and deliver on strategic communications plans. Continuously adjust priorities and redeploy talent as business needs evolve.
• Direct PR agency of record in designing and successfully executing PR plans on time, within budget, and adhering to all enterprise compliance/operational procedures.
Required Qualifications
• 15 years relevant Communications experience, including 5 years supervisory experience.
• Experience in building and leading high-performance communications teams.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with key executives and serve as a strategic communications counselor for an early-stage product seeking to create and cultivate a new market.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including strong executive presence counseling leaders on emerging business risks and opportunities.
• Demonstrated ability to create and deliver communications plans to develop new markets and drive successful execution of product launches.
• Ability to meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality and demonstrate accountability for delivering strong results while navigating ambiguity and operating in white space.
• Strategic and analytical thinker, with superior problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively influence business decisions to grow and protect reputation.
• Excellent time management, planning and organizational skills – including the ability to lead, coach and grow talent in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Willingness to travel, as needed, and in support of business needs.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in product commercialization and launch communications in the pharmaceutical and/or medical device industry is a plus.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English, Business or a related field.
